Quick Question About the Camaro's keys..

well im soon gonna get the camaro and well i was wondering that the keys they come with are all in one. as in like keys and alarm. but can i get keys and the fob in another? get me?

b.c i going to get a Clifford alarm. and would be worthless to carry that big ass key if i am not using the alarm that is stock.

Nope. GM isn't offering just a plain key for the Camaro, it's not even possible to order one. Many people have looked into this before on here. The only way to do this is to have another key fob made and cut for your car and break open the fob to remove the key.

From what I understand, you STILL have to have the key fob near the ignition (or in the car) in order for the car to run...

Read the thread listed above...

okay but here is the plan i had

my brother has a 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution IX MR and he has remote start and a extremely nice alarm system..therefore i wanted to do the same. but i dont want to care that huge key that comes with the camaro and also the EXTRA fob for the alarm. i mean if GM offered Remote start on Manual Tranny. ill be prettty happy. but they dont. i know the shop that does the clutch bypass and everything. but just have to get yet another key. because nowdays most car keys have a chip in them. that have to be near the ignition to start the car. so im guessing im screwed?

I'm a locksmith with a new 2LTRS camaro... 2 FOBS with keys, come with /without remote start...Strattec makes the the locks and the key fobs. I don't know what a dealer gets for the FOBs but I pay just $25 for them when I order from my wholesaler...there is also a key kit out, it contains 5 blank key blades and pins, price $12 So tell me..what do you do when you go on a trip? Take 1 key, the spares at home right? Well, I bought a 3rd fob and had the blank cut by a friend of mine(locksmith) who has a sidewinder key cutter)..they run about $4,000 Your correct, a cut key WILL NOT WORK unless it is in the FOB...BUT Just a plain cut key by itself.. will open the door! Hence I put the 3rd FOB in the pocket behind the passenger seat....so, I can't get locked out, or if I loose my keys, I can get in and have another set in the car (besides the spare set I have at home.....YOU have to have the key programed so it will match up with the computer...its no BIG secret..do this: Put the original key(part of the original fob) in the ignition turn the the switch to the on position...leave it in this position for about 5 seconds...turn the switch off and remove original key..THEN take the new cut key which is in a new fob in the ignition turn swith to on wait about 5 seconds, turn off, remove key..Then take that key you just programed back into the ignition...an presto it starts DONE! That will be $100 please...cash or check?

AND, by the way: DON'T go prying the key fob apart...the blade is held in place by a small roll pin at the big end...see it? knock out pin, key bade is removed...got it?

Maybe my judgment was clouded by the excitement of the test drive, but the key fob really didn't seem all that big to me. It was bigger than my Cavalier key (unless you count the fob dangling from the chain as part of the key) but it was by no means enormous. Then again I am 6'3" and have rather large hands, so maybe my perception is somewhat skewed.
