My comparison is valid because all I have heard about is how the camaro was in big trouble because the mustang was going to be so much lighter. The Camaro would not only lose in a drag race, but it would be beat on the track because the "track pack" makes up for no IRS.

My contention is that the SS comes standard with 20's and Brembos and IRS and you need to ADD OPTIONS to the mustang to compete. I don't care how much lighter the base car is because you're going to end up in the tire barrier with those stock brakes fading and the base suspension.

So, what you end up doing is comparing the base weight of a stripper model to a much more capable base model Camaro. A Mustang with no track pack and the tiny all season tires will not beat a stock SS on the track.

It's pretty simple.
Again. That may be true for a 2010 model. Have you not read the releases ? Goto a few sites and get the full story. Here I'll do you a solid.

http://media.ford.com/article_displa...ticle_id=31645

Now...reading this, how do you suspect that a car with FACTORY OPTIONS is going to weigh in as much as a Camaro ? The 2010 Mustang with these options already has far less weight. What is this strip down Mustang you keep talking about ? The non brembo brakes rotors went up over a inch...the lca's now are standard GT500 (ford racing) lca's. Everything standard on this car has been upgraded. So yeah a non track pack, non brembo mustang will seem to stand up to a Camaro quite well.

Also I fail to understand how adding OPTIONS, from FACTORY, is like saying you went to the aftermarket. Its a choice that ford is giving to their customers. Beleive it or not, everyone does not want 19inch rims. Brembo brakes. A track pack with 3.75 gears. Some do. So how is having a CHOICE a bad thing ? How is this saying "oh a mustang cannot compete unless it has these options ?" If GM makes did this would it be any different ?

The logic on this board from some of its members is quite mind bending at times. I fail to understand how it comes to reason. Give credit where credit is due. It makes no difference who's name is on the outside. A good car is a good car. Period.

Here's a link from Motor Trend for those that haven't seen it. Impressive specs and nice-looking engine.

Why can't you just ignore what he is saying and vice versa. Its clear you guys won't agree so leave it along. It will be a nice car way do you need to defend anything someone thinks or says about it. We will really find out the truth when it hits the streets, until then all you guys are doing is ****ing benchracing and paper stats comparsions.

there is absolutely no reason for ANY mustang to ever weigh in at 4100 lbs. I don't know where your friend got an irs for his Roush but even if you threw an IRS on the GT500 it still wouldn't weigh 4100 lbs.

No, what I find funny is that the PDF I linked is direct from Ford. Its the Pro Ford guys on here arguing that Ford is wrong or that Ford posted inaccurate information. I like the fact that most Ford guys are in essence, calling Ford's numbers BS. Oh, the irony.

The V6s come standard with 17" rims, and 18"s are optional.

This is from the Ford Mustang website.

Directly from the Ford website and here is the paragraph from that page in case you can't find it.
You need to reread your own link again This quote was for the V6 version of the 2011 Mustang, not the GT premium I linked.

Quote:
Borrowing from the Mustang GT, the Performance Package includes numerous suspension, braking and body stiffening upgrades to deliver unparalleled handling performance. That road-holding is helped by a near-equal front/rear weight distribution, providing exceptional transient response along with the car’s slimmed-down curb weight of less than 3,500 pounds.
If they really did add body stiffening upgrades, suspension and braking tweaks, it is plausible that it put on a few lbs. I'll agree that it seems unlikely that it gained 300lbs, but again, why is Ford estimating such a high weight for the GT?

What did they do put helium in the new parts? LOL!
nobody is saying the new model is lighter everyone has come to the general consensus that the engine is 10 pounds heavier, the transmission is a couple pounds lighter, and overall the car shouldn't weigh more than 3700 pounds with the added structural rigidity.

are we on the same page now?

WOW!
Just wow. 450 horses... I mean, I thought the V6 got it good with 305.
It almost makes me curious to see what the GT500's gonna have.
