Bert, lets get down to "the bottom line", its all about what YOU want, not anybody else. The RS package has ALWAYS, from the begining of its conception, a visual addition to the car. are their parts that are "functional" YES, truely performance related, NO. For me, it was a no brainer to get the RS pkg. My first Camaro was an RS, so I HAD to get an RS this time, somewhat a nastalgia thing. AND I love the looks of the car with the RS pkg. SO, the bottom line is.......WHAT DO YOU WANT?

I love this place! Thanks for all the input so far. Here's what I get so far:
1) "practical camaro" is somewhat of a contradiction or oxymoron -- good point -- but I am willing to make some compromises for practicality 2) halos rock -- agreed, I do like the look of them and I haven't even seen how they work in the dark yet 3) fog lights not needed with HID's -- understood, honestly I never use the fog lights on my cars that have them anyway, but I saw a post somewhere that mentioned this as a problem in the snow 4) the summer tires are OK in the rain -- I did not realize that before, and I would be getting winter snow tires regardless so the 20" wheels are good 5) the do-it-myself option sounds good, but not practical for me because I have neither a garage nor the spare time 6) body color roof ditch molding is noticeable So I think I'm being swayed back toward the RS! budget may be the final deciding factor . . . thanks much . . . still open for more comments! |

You don't mention this but I'm assuming your going with with the V6. I'm going with a 2SS so most of this stuff already comes on the car.
I use to think that on a V6 the RS was worth it but I don't know about that any more. Halos - I personally like the retro look of the Halogen bulbs. I want HID so I'm going to add some aftermarket HID lights from AAC for $260. You can also get the Halo rings from them for about the same price (I don't need Halos). They also have a sweet looking Afterburner tail lights. I'm going to spend about $500 to have Bi-Xenon HID, LED interior & license plate lights, and Afterburner taillights added to my car. Spoiler - If you like the looks with out is then that's a no brainer. Personally I'm going to be adding an NLP spoiler so the factory spoiler will be sold to help offset the cost. If you're buying a VR, I'll sell you mine for a good price once it's here. ![]() Wheels - Personally I like the 20's but if you can live with the 19's then do it. Plus there will be plenty of aftermarket wheels coming if you decide you want to make the change. Taillights - There is such a slight difference that even some of the first Camaros got their taillights mixed up from the factory. I've been at Camaro meets with a RS and non-RS side by side. Looking at the taillights then you can SLIGHTLY see the difference but that's only because I knew what i was looking for. 95% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Roof Ditch Molding - That's just your call. I would prefer them but it's not a deal breaker to me. Some colors it's more distinctive than others. For me it's not worth buying the whole RS pkg for. For those that want to be able to say "it's an RS/SS". IMO you're just feeding off the First Gens where the RS pkg really did make a noticable difference. Problem is that there are so many 2010 with RS that they aren't really unique. On the First Gens the RS pkg was definately different than without. GM should have made the RS more distinctive on the 2010. On a First Gen it came with concelled headlights (which completely changed the look of the grill area), chrome side trim, rear spoiler, and bigger reverse lights that were below the bumper instead of in the tail light lens. You can see a First Gen driving down the road and can tell that it is or isn't an RS. With a 2010 Camaro.....not so much. Sounds like you've already made up your mind anyways. Go with your gut feeling.

I believe it is 118mph or so without. Oh and you can run the Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow tires up to 150 as well. |

To each his own. I wanted the RS package because I wanted everything it came with. Since I got the V-6, I wanted the spoiler, the 20" wheels, and of course the HIDs.

yes I am talking about the V6 with (or without) the RS package
7) I didn't realize about the speed limiter with the smaller wheels . . . I highly doubt I'd ever go over 118 mph, but it would be fun to know that I could if I ever got it onto a track |

Camaros that come with the 19" or 20" wheels are not speed limited to 118 mph. Only the 18" wheels with the lower speed rated tires are limited to 118.

I'm not sure, but I don't believe there is a speed limiter if you get a manual transmission.

What are you comparing the RS too when you say it isn't unique??? Another Camaro??? I wouldn't have bought anything less...
