Why not just prosecute texters under existing reckless driving laws?

Just about every morning I see this woman putting on here makeup at 70MPH on the interstate ! Then usually a little further I see a guy shaving and gabbing on the phone. I can't tell you how many times I'm tempted to hit the horn. What really gets me is the troopers patrolling never do anything.

What the heck ever happend to prosecuting people for inattentive driving. I don't text and drive, I use bluetooth when I have to use he phone. I focus on driving first.

What really pulls my chain is he inattentive Texter/Cell Phone user, weaving, driving erratically and tailgating while doing same.

As far as I am concerned, its about time. Multi-tasking is just another way of saying you are distracted while driving. Think about how far you travel during any given time period.

If you lose your focus on driving, while texting etc., you have missed your chance to avoid an accident.

And, yeah, I am older. And yeah, I have had accidents in the past. But none for the last 30 years now. Both of my accidents were weather related. and one of those was from someone hitting me. Much like seatbelt laws, it is as a result of our National indifference to safety while driving. We expect some one else to protect us, add costly and heavy safety gear to our vehicles to protect us from ourselves.

The reality is that this behavior needs to be wrestled down and elminated. That's my feeling and everyone has their right to disagree. However, when someone else's distracted driving takes its toll on my safety and life, I draw the line.

Yep! $500 Fine if your 18 and over, $1000 Fine under 18!
UH! Don't do it. They'll be looking, this will be a money maker for a few months.

I did it and its pretty un realistic to me because I'm not going to be driving that damn fast while texting. It said i was .18 slower while texting and the average was .24 but I didn't miss any gates and on average people miss 8. I understand the point but doubt it's going to change anything.
