Tire Pressure and Winter?

So last night I checked the tired pressure in my car and it was around 38 in the front and the back... well the Temp. dropped to about 19 degrees last night ... I check the tire pressure this morning... 35 front and around 28 and 29 in the back... so I'm wondering .. does the Cold Temperatures have anything to do with the tire pressure dropping like that? Comments please.. this has been bugging me all day... Thanks for reading this.

"For every 10 degree Fahrenheit change in outside temperature, your tire's inflation pressure will change by about 1 psi (up with higher and down with lower temperatures)"

Yes, changes with temps. On my 20" Blizzaks:

In my garage the temp is about 35-40, tire pressure at start is usually around 34 psi, after commute to work (5o minutes, 32 miles) tires warm to 36-37 psi.

For the commute home & Camaro sitting in open parking lot at 20 degrees its around 32 psi and warms to 36-37 for the ride home.

Your tire pressure dropped 9 PSI??? What was the temperature at the 38 PSI read- 100 degrees? That's a big drop.

That would bug me too. I keep my car in a heated garage at around 65 degrees. PSI = 36. On the way to work, might get 37/38 psi. With car sitting for 8 hours in 20-25 deg weather, it'll read about 34 psi.

You might want to check the pressure with a good gauge to verify the car readout.

I was thinking the same..... Sounds more like a sensor misreading ....

Use Nitrogen if your not now, your pressures will be more stable ...

Somtimes very cold temps can cause a tire to leak air in addition to the cold induced reduction in pressure. Happens all the time here in MN.

Shrinkage factor...

...cold causes it to get smaller - the tire pressure of course.
