I have only had mine for 1 month, but I have been getting 20-25 mpg according to the car, but when I average it after I fill up I am getting 23-28. I had a hybrid before this car so it told you what you were getting at every second so watching that taught me some really good driving habits. I hope what everyone says is true and I get better mpg when it gets warmer.

I am curious if anyone with the Heritage tire package has done any checks and if that comes up better than the Pirelli's due to narrower profile?
I know for a fact that when I upgraded the tires on my Land Cruiser from street tires to MTRs that I dropped between 1 to 2 mpg.

I am enjoying it immensely. No regrets. I'm a week short of two months driving it and I'm coming up on 1600 miles.

hmmm . . . after reading this thread I'm wondering if my gas mileage expectations for the V6 are unrealistic . . . in an actual 1-day test drive (1LT auto with 18" wheels) I got 26 average, 30.5 highway . . . but I haven't seen anyone else posting numbers that high . . . maybe I should reconsider an SS if the MPG is not much different . . .
do you guys think the 18" wheels could make a significant difference? I don't know the numbers, but I'm pretty sure the tires on the 18" wheels are narrower than the 20" RS wheels . . . the other thing is the automatic transmission . . . I did notice that the auto tends to keep the RPM's below 2000 if left to its own devices . . . this is hard to do with the manual bottom line -- do you guys think 26 average / 30 highway is realistic or no? and would it need to be an auto / 18" wheels to do that? (this would be for a mix of about 70% highway / 30% off-highway but not a lot of stop-and-go) |

There's a big difference in how "around town" is defined. All will agree it's not highway, but around town could be mean stoplight to stoplight, or long long stretches of 45-55 mph with a couple lights throw in every mile or so.
Stoplight to stoplight, I get 16.5 to 17. When the lights are in sync and I'm in 6th gear with longer stretches of road without lights, I can get 20 "around town". Highway: just yesterday I got 28-29 going from 60-65 on a 55 speed limit road for about 40 miles.

actually I'm sure it can be done . . . good thing the V6 doesn't have that "skip shift" thing to make it more difficult . . . and good to see I'm not the only one that got close to 30 on the highway |

It does have that stupid skip shift if you are in paddle shift mode. If you start out in first, let it rev up before tap shifting, it will put you in fourth.

If you did all things equal and then got the V8 you'd be looking at even worse mpg.

My m6 does not have skipshift, i dont see why the auto would have one either. Im not trying to shoot you down, i just doubt that the v6 auto would have that BTW Skip shift would only work if you tried to keep the rpms down. The skip shift in the SS only activates when you accelerate slowly, you can bypass that by bringing the revs up in first gear. Thats why skip is annoying because of traffic jams |
