Trunk mounted battery replacement

I noticed the trunk mounted battery has a hose leading to the exterior. Is this for gas venting so nothing builds up in the trunk? I don't recall ever having seen a replacement battery with a hose fitting for venting. Wonder if a special battery is needed with this fitting.

Also, the battery area doesn't appear to have a plastic tub or tray to catch battery acid. Depending on what GM says about this, I may need to mod something.

Thinking of putting a JL HD750 series amp in the this area. Will not push the amp so cooling shouldn't be a problem. We'll see what happens to this plan...
