Does a skip shift eliminator really void your warranty? If so, why? I installed a short throw Hurst in mine, my dealership knows it, and I am not aware of any issues with this. Probably breaks some Federal tree hugger law to eliminate skip shift.

I agree it is stupid to have the skip shift.

I drove my 4th gen all the time, it was a stick.

I too am a 1-3-5 shifter at times. went 20 mph in first. never had a problem.

get the eliminator if it is inconvenient to shift smoothly with more than 2-3,000 rpm

here is an old trick we used on our 4th gens....

skip shift can be done for less than $5 and 20 mins of your time.....
(this is done on a 4th gen camaro....but the skip shift solenoid should look the same between the T56 and the current trans.....im pretty sure they will use the same connector as well...)

here is the write up of how to do it
http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...adio_shack.htm

hopefully someone will give this a try and let us know if it works...

here is the picture of a trans with the !CAGS solenoid circled:

it wont void your warrenty if you take it off and plug the connector back in before you take the car to the dealer

Yep, this is all you need to do. The easiest bypass for free. You don't have to drive aggressively either to do this. I do understand the concern though.

I had a similar experience in my 4th Gen where the skip shift almost got me t-boned....So the Skip shift eliminator was on within a few days of buying the 5th gen. It is absolutely necessary IMHO.

You don't have to hot dog this car to eliminate the skip shift problem. All you have to do is just drive the car to about 15 miles an hour before you shift and you will never have this problem. You don't have to dog the car to get it to do this, just drive it normal. Go and try this and you will see what we are talking about. I know this is kinda a bad design but would you rather pay a gas guzzler tax, I think not.

I asked my dealer if it would void the warrantee if I put it in, and they said no. May not be true of all GM dealers, but I figured I'd mention this.

Also, they said they would install it as well, lol.

I can't believe that so many people are even encountering the "skip shift". I have to accelerate PAINFULLY slowly to even get the thing to engage. If you accelerate at the rate of the average prius you'll never even see it.

People are gonna spaz out for hearing this but if you drive this car and constantly see the skip shift light then you probably were a better customer for the V6 Camaro. Why even get an SS if you're not going to use it?

I encounter it, but it doesn't happen often. I only get it when I'm behind someone at a light and have to accelerate at their speed and am not paying attention to when I shift. Even then, now, I usually shift at 22mph. However when I'm "not paying attention", the natural shift point is around that 19mph range for me.

When I'm not behind someone, I am accelerating a little faster and it isn't an issue.

Come on people....he was on a hill and had to put the clutch in to shift! the car is going to roll backwards until a gear is found and whether or not it stalled is not an issue either. If it would have been wet or ice on the ground, are you still going to say gun it to 19 mph? Skip shift sucks and actually could cause an accident during the hesitation to find the gear.
