I love STIs, i hate the past two designs thought to be honest but they are amazing cars and sound GREAT
One of the guys at my summer job has 3 STIs, Blue, black and grey. He alternates every day too lol
Im not going to lie, im pretty disapointed that our V6 cant beat an 09 WRX.
believe it or not the WRX is quicker to 60mph and faster than in the 1/4 than than the STi. the STi is built for the track, where it outperforms the wrx.

the v6 maro has simular hp/tq specs to the wrx but weights a hell of alot more.

I know about the 0-60 thing due to I believe Gearing, but no way no how would the STI be bested in the 1/4 mile by the WRX.

Where is that coming from?

He's actually correct. From Car and Driver:

WRX
0-60 - 4.7 sec.
1/4 - 13.5 at 102 mph

STI
0-60 - 5.0 sec.
1/4 - 13.6 @ 102 mph

Weight does have a lot to do with it. They say that 7lbs is equal to 1hp. So in theory...

V6 camaro curb weight = 3728 (from a quick google search)
WRX curb weight = 3142

3728-3142 = 586lbs

586/7 = ~84hp

So a person could either add 84 hp to the WRX or subtract 84hp from the camaro to have approx equal power comparisons.

265 + 84 = 349 for the "adjusted" WRX, vrs the 304hp camaro

or

304 - 84 = 220 for the "adjusted" camaro vrs the 265 WRX

I've never trusted the 1 lb = X hp rules of thumb. Power to weight ratio is a lot more accurate and meaningful, as long as there isn't an extreme difference in power between the two. Anyways, for the WRX it has a hair less than 12 lb/hp while the V6 Camaro's are 12.3 to 12.4 lb/hp. Then add AWD and aggressive gearing and its obvious why it has an excellent 0-60. But after 60 mph (based on 1/4 mile times) it either holds its lead or loses a bit of ground to the Camaro, most likely due to high awd driveline losses.

From reading that, I can gather the 2 cars where not reviewed side by side with the same driver under the same conditions. They Didn't line up and go at it.

From a different source it was slower :

http://www.edmunds.com/subaru/imprez...testdrive.html

"In testing, our WRX four-door accelerated to 60 mph in a brisk 5.2 seconds on its way to a 13.7-second quarter-mile at 98.7 mph"

Given the same driver on the same day, I'd suspect the STI will win.

On Topic, V6 Camaro is a great deal. It can do a few things that the Impreza just can't, number 1, Look amazing, and number 2, get Good gas mileage on Regular. Also for the money, I think the Camaro might come better equipped. However, all that said Stock for Stock the WRX is probably going to win a drag race. Luckily no one said you cannot mod the Camaro, and honestly so long as you don't need 4 doors it's a better buy.

Most of this is opinion. Most people dont buy a Camaro or an Impreza because they get good gas mileage.

A better buy can only be decided by the person who is actually buying the car.

Someone out there thinks that both the camaro and the impreza are worse purchases than their 91 honda....

Style is subjective sure I'll grant that. However, most people and me included (I owned an 02 WRX btw) will tell you that in this category the Camaro wins hands down. It's personal preference sure, and everyone is intitled to what they think looks good to them.

The Difference in Gas mileage is Significant. One takes premium and one takes regular and gets more MPG on that regular fuel while still making it's power.

I saw a an '09 WRX on the show room floor for 29K. Now, I am sure that there can be some wiggle room on the sticker, but I didn't see any options that were not availible on the 1LT for less.

Some people will believe that certain things are better just because they say they are. That does not make it true. Gas mileage and Options for money however can be measured just like performance.

That's about all I got on this. Take it for what you will.

Oh and yea, Here's one thing. I REALLY hope the 09 WRX you bought there, has a stronger 5 speed then the one they had for the previous years. Do NOT take this as me being smart. I am very familer with WRX's. On the one hand them using the 2.5L block is a great thing for low down TQ, on the other hand, I'd of felt alot safer with the 6 spd in the STI attached to it.

This tranny thing is something. A friend has a modded WRX, around 500hp at the ground IIRC, and even though the tranny is beefed up, it's still the weak link. It's a 5spd, again, IIRC, and it has caused more issues then anything else this guy has gone through with his car. It's a beast when it's running right, although with all his problems, I'd still run him and hope he breaks, lmao.

I know of people who just gave up and started to buy extra trannies from Salvage yards to just have spares as they knew it wasn't going to last long.

I have heard of people having them break on completely stock cars.

I don't even want to know what 500 to the wheels would of been like on it. lol
