I can't see how this test will show any meaningful results unless you get a better catback system than stock installed first.

I wonder if the rest of the exhaust will make a difference. I.E if the stock catback is left on there providing a little more back pressure, would it really matter to the engine if the headers were 1 3/4 or 7/8?

Would be interesting to see this back to back to back test with a popular - x pipe and 3" cat back setup. So you'ld have the ideal back half of the exhaust, and then the only variable being the 3 different header sizes.

It has been demonstrated many times and is commonly accepted that most of the restriction in the factory system is in the cast exhaust manifolds and cats. This is where your potential power gains are.

There are little power improvements to be had after the cats. Cat backs are mostly about audible improvements. We have seen axle backs changed with 0 hp gains on the dyno.

I've done this testing with the 1 3/4" & 1 7/8" on engine dyno testing before. It'll be interesting to see if you get the same results.

Sorry, but I'll agree with the statement below:

The exhaust manifold (aka the headers) are usually always the most restrictive part of the exhaust. Though technically without a tune you cant really benefit from all of the back pressure you have just released, but regardless it's an interesting idea for these guys to do it and obviously for vendors among the boards will probably try to stock more of the one that is chosen to produce the most power, and then aggressively price it for the market of Camaro guys.

Subscribed to see what these gains are!

Explain to me why you guys prefer not to tune a 1 7/8 or EVEN a 2 in primary long tube headers? As long as the AFR is the same throughout the test with all the headers then its fair. Not tuning a 2in primary and getting AFR reading at the tailpipe will not be accurate enough for a REAL test.
