And depending on which s/c the cars has, it doesn't necessarily mean that the car will have an extreme top speed. Twin screws usually run out of air at higher RPM's which are necessary for high speeds (figuratively speaking), where as my Camaro is a top end car with all power and torque very high in the power band. I have zero chance at 50mph roll race towards a stock GT500 even though my HP advantage, but as soon as I can wind it out the car pulls crazy hard
My car makes 631 rwhp, and with the Vortech it was still climbing when we shut it down on the dyno at 6300 rpm. So at high speeds it is right where the centrifugal S/C likes it. Also, my intake air temp at the time I did 186, was 25 degrees. the outside air temp was at 23 degrees. The air was cold so that was probably helping make even more hp. The only bad thing when doing this run, was the altitude of 6000 ft in northern New Mexico on I-25 near Wagon Mound. It was at about 6:30 am and I could see for 10 miles, nice and straight and not another car in sight. I also think that the GFX package also helps the car to stay planted, by keeping air from getting under the car so much.

Ok, I'll settle down I just don't like someone basically calling me a liar.
I should have looked at his avatar and realized that he's just another stang owner jealous of the New Camaro.
You know how we usually settle it out west....line up at 30 paces and DRAW!!!

I know what you mean about just going the speed limit when you live where you do. I was in Ohio for 10 mths, ordered and picked up my car in Ohio. Those roads are so bad around there. Alot different out west, alot of wide open interstates, not a sole in sight and the pavement is as smooth as silk.
We didn't even have a speed limit in Montana for quite a few years! That was just what the doctor ordered for cars like the Camaro and Vette!!

I was taching right at 6300 rpm in 5th @ 186 mph.

Here's a pic of my gps for all you doubters and yes a gps, not the DIC, cause a DIC pic can be done on a dyno:

It is a heck of a rush, I feel bad for you guys that live in such populated places. There is nothing like having the miles after miles of open space to just let it loose.

I feel it! I used to have both Sweden and Germany to go flat out in. Here in FL I am sticking to the tracks and airfields though :P

Well my car is completly stock yet. Going down a straight (but with some rolling hills), newly resurfaced state highway at 3:48am on New Years I got my car to tell me "speed limited to 155mph"

Yes it did understeer but very predictable and stable, and that is why I went with Pfadt Swaybars, went back to the track, then I added springs, and again back to the track. I have tried several suspension set-ups at the road course, drag strip and standing mile events. Next mod is Pfadt Coil-overs and finally some real track wheel and tire set-up.

I know how fast I want to go, both in straight line performance and on the road course and there is a lot more then money that come into fact

I have over 7000 miles on my Camaro in barely 2 months. 4 full days of road course driving, 3 standing mile events with at least 6 full runs each time, 100 passes on the 1/4 (both real and full 1/4 mile simulation on our Dyno) and a couple thousand daily driven miles. I know this car both in and out and am very aware of what it s capable of.

When I want to go really fast I just break out my Z06 with 610whp, now we are talking speed

The Camaro is pretty similar to the GTO in several aspects, and I sustained speeds over 140mph from Stockholm to Maranello (Sweden to Italy) and the car felt right at home. I get the same feeling with the Camaro, but even better actually! GM did their homework and made an amazing car with this one!
I agree...GM did their job on this vehicle. I know...I work for Chevrolet and have put a lot of miles on all our stuff, both on the track and off. I also hope I didn't offend. My tonque was intended to be firmly planted in cheek! Just the same, as a past road and oval racer, I always like to take a swipe at the straight line guys when I can, but I respect what they do just the same!

However, you did mention you experienced understeer at high speed on the road course. You and I differ on one point. I never consider understeer stable. In fact, it scares the snot out of me, especially at these speeds. Predictable...maybe...but that's a point that's best decided based on each driver's experience.

In stock form, this car is heavy and understeers at lot at these speeds. I don't want anyone reading this forum to think it doesn't, lest they go try it and smack the wall or worse. Suspension modifications, like you mentioned, can do wonderful things for this car. It's a great platform to build upon. You have done some awesome mods to yours and, with mods like these and others, the vehicle is capable of a lot and tons safer to drive at these speeds.

I just don't want untrained or unqualified drivers pushing the stock vehicle to it's limits either on or off the track because people on this forum said it was easy to do and the car was "stable". To do so is irresponsible and that's why these threads scare me. Stable to you and me, maybe. Stable to 95% of the people who read these posts, no.

I'm a professional trained high speed driver and, based on your posts, I suspect you are too. As a professional, I have my speed warning set at 80 and keep it below that most of the time. The only time I was above that outside of a track environment is when I was doing WOT pulls to break in the engine. I hope most people reading this thread do the same.

Again, much respect to you and all Camaro owners out there. Your passion is the reason I have a job! I'll close with my favorite racing quote...."Keep all 4 wheels on the ground and NEVER run out of ideas, traction or real estate at the same time."

I don't need to set the DIC onboard speed warning, I have a wife that rides with me most of the time.... the Screaming above 80 keeps my speed down...

Just joking...

I did 150 and it scared the crap outa me. Let off at that point, car was almost floating. I hear they have limiters set at 158. Just got there so fast. Put all my Mustangs to shame. Damn!!! I did my test run on a desserted section of flat newly paved hwy away from the public. Please don't try your car out if there is any danger of hurting anyone in the public.
