The only bad thing when doing this run, was the altitude of 6000 ft in northern New Mexico on I-25 near Wagon Mound. It was at about 6:30 am and I could see for 10 miles, nice and straight and not another car in sight. I also think that the GFX package also helps the car to stay planted, by keeping air from getting under the car so much.
Still breaking mine mine in however it will go over 100 in 4th. By the way the gas station in wagonmound has some great beef jerky. Also the highway there is about as straight and flat as anywhere in the country, I only wish when I was driving to ALbq. i was driving my camaro instead of my Ram. Look forward to seeing your car this summer.

I'm confused. How can that guy say he was going 186 when the camaro only goes up to 180mph?? Or am I mistaken?

Just because the speedo only goes to 180 does not mean you cant go faster.

We did about 150 on route 36 in Northern CA right after thanksgiving. It was about a 2 mile straight stretch with no one coming the other way. I stopped in the middle of the road and got on it from a dead stop. The car handled just fine but this was just a straight shot drag race to 150.

I've heard the same BS years ago when I had my 93 Z28. It was basically stock and it would do 175 without a problem. A parts guy said it wasn't possible. Well, some people do and others theorize. I think the LS3/L99 could do the same without a problem.

Now I'm a bit older and hopefully wiser. I've lost several freinds over the years to accidents and now some friends kids are getting f'd up or dead... It's hard to find enough open road to even think about these speeds without endangering someone. Maybe I'll try to find the top end on a track someday but, certainly not on the California highways.

138 tonight. I was amazed at how smooth she is at that high of speeds. It was like she was right in her comfort zone. This car rocks.

I once hit a wild boar at about 110-115mph back home in Sweden in my old Volvo T5-R. That thing is like a bowling ball and went straight thru the whole engine bay and hit the firewall on the passenger side. Wild animals are no joke.

At the Standing Mile I usually keep it in 4th up to about 158mph, this car has insane gearing. I will be throwing in a set of 3.73's a.s.a.p!

The numbers on the speedometer have nothing to do with the actual top-speed.

Ever heard of someone burying the needle? It means going faster than the Speedometer will read...

Look closer at the speedo, I don't know about your car, but mine with the IOM interior has orange on the guages and there is one line above 180. That mark is 185. But that doesn't mean the car will only go that fast. The DIC kept reading all the way to 186.

That's why I did it there, I was just cruising along at 80, at 6:30 am and hit that stretch. I could see for 10 miles, not a car in sight, the temp outside was around 25 degrees, so I knew the tires weren't hot. I just dropped to 4th and hammered it. It went to 160, I shifted to 5th and in about a mile from when I hammered it at 80 I was doing 186. I always wanted to see If I could bury the speedo on this car and I did it. I wish now I would have run to redline. I was taching about 6300, so calculating it out I probably could have done about 193 at redline. While doing 180, I shifted to 6th to see If it would hold the speed, but it is .50 overdrive, and it wouldn't hold, and slowly started to drop off. The Vettes are the same way, they will only do their top speed in 5th. 6th is too high geared.

Pumpkin, look forward to meeting all the new camaro owners this spring.
If the job doesn't have me clear across the country by then.

Yeah, speedo is marked to 185 mph (one slash mark past 180 mph). And as mentioned you can use the DIC to see the speed readout (digital).

154 and speed was still climbing reasonably fast, but I backed off so I could slow down for a turn ahead. Was quite stable.
