haven't seen it. But the two trucks are completely different. Might as well compare a drag-pack Challenger to a Roush Mustang. Sure, each is a high performance vehicle but they aren't meant for direct competition.

My recent Four Wheeler magazine had a good comparo. Ultimately the Power Wagon won but 1 of the comments said that the SVT may have won with a better engine. Sounds very close but different and just depends on where you live and go.

The raptor has yet to really be compared to anything in an intelligent manner. And likely WONT be... because... there is nothing else compareable out there... It's in it's own category, quite literally.

It's an off road high speed performance truck and most comparissons have been done on pavement.
Dumb. Period.. Comparing it with haulers and crawlers & work trucks.

The comparisons claiming it lost due to the 5.4 L engine feeling sluggish with the 35's..... well.. look at some of the other trucks in the comparisons they do... it's a joke...

I am interested to see how the 6.2L engine will fair as it will be on the road within the next few months.

I suspect that even on the retarded pavement tests.. the 6.2 would have been more impressive... But really, articles like that motor trend article.... Special Olympics rings a bell..

No better than a lot of the stang vs chally vs maro articles.... The more I read the less I care what the reviews say.

Since when is a Journalist who managed a test-drive an expert. Not to mention the biases.

The raptor blows the dodge away, at least in looks anyway. I have never been a dodge fan.

The Raptor looks ok in photos, but it's amazing up close, ecspecially those [fox racing?] shocks.

Amazing and very different trucks that do what they are intended to do very, very well. I like both and wish very much that Ford would build a Super Duty variant that competes with the Power Wagon.

but a track pack mustang gt500 is a direct challenger to an HPE 650?

there's a reason that I labeled this thread "Interesting comparison"

did you guys read the first paragraph of the page?

Quote:
OK, we know what you’re going to say: “This is not an apples-to-apples comparison.” For these two 4x4 pickups, wheelbases, cabs, beds and running gear are not directly comparable.
One’s a crew cab, the other is an extended cab. One is based on a half-ton, personal-use platform; the other is a 3/4-ton commercial-use platform. One is made to go fast; the other to go slow. These two pickups are different animals, right from the start. Anyone can see that, Einstein, so put down your pen and save your e-mails. We’re comparing them anyway, because there are also quite a few intriguing similarities:
  • Both trucks are off-road ready from the factory.
  • Both supply off-road equipment that would be hard to duplicate in the aftermarket without great cost.
  • Both represent the “ultimate setup” in the eyes of their manufacturers.
  • Both are remarkably free of compromises that trade off desirable qualities for the sake of off-road performance.
  • Both are still everyday drivers, with comfort, convenience and safety features consistent with the best new pickups, not to mention factory warranties.

instead of arguing that the comparison isnt apples to apples, why not discuss some of of the different designs of the two trucks and their capabilities?

such as the power wagon's front sway bar disconnect that allows up to 32 inches of travel.

I don't particularly care if each is best at what its supposed to do ... good for them. Evaluate each truck on its own merits in that case. Thats not a valid premise to compare two vehicles, imo. Obviously a beefed up 3/4 ton isn't going to turn as well as the Raptor. Likewise, why would you ever expect a factory pre-runner to have better protection than factory megasize trail rig? It just doesn't make sense to me.

I agree both trucks excel brilliantly at their individual intended purposes and it would be impossible to find anything else compareable currently offered out of the factory with warranty intended for their intended uses..

I did indeed see that they had already mentioned it wasn't an apples to apples write-up.

However the fact that they recognized that should have been enough for them to have the common sense not to bother going forth with a comparison and instead writing up two lengthy individual reviews of each truck on it's own.

Clearly, both trucks are deserving of standing on their own.

Comparing even with the "similarities" they listed is still pointless due to the vast differences which greatly outweigh the similarities.
(some of which have been pointed out in the above post)

If the point of the comparison instead was to simply illustrate the similarities in the advancements in pickup trucks from the two companies...(branching out to reach niche audiences even during financial hardships) . or just between the two trucks... without seeking out a "winner" (of what?) that would be a little more viable.
