TSB on Belt?
Dropped my SS off at the dealer this morning so they could find the noise coming from the engine. Doesn't always do it when warm but it's pretty loud at first startup. Sounded like a bad bearing to me from either the a/c, tensioner, or alternator. So of course by the time I drove 20 miles to the dealer it was dead silent. They gave me a pos bare Impala for a rental and sent me on my way. They just called and told me there was a TSB on the belt describing this exact same problem. Bad part is the closest one is Northern US and I am in Texas. Supposed to have it overnight shipped and be ready tomorrow. I have respect now for anyone that can daily drive any little family sedan. All I can say is UGH! Anyone have information on this TSB? Been without my car for 3 whole hours, think I may have to get drunk tonight so I don't miss it

Had my car at the dealership yesterday morning with the same issue. Was told there is a TSB on the belt but only for v6 models build before aug 09. Have to wait 2-3 days for the belt to arrive at the dealership. I believe FC-Gibb on this forum had the same experience.
TSB was issues 1-13-10 according the mechanic I spoke with.

Well it would be funny if I hear tomorrow that for some reason the belt didn't fit
I have a 10/09 build 1SS and I found info on the V-6 but not the 8. Seriously I have been messing with cars a long time and their is a difference between a slipping belt squeal and a metalic grind. I may eat these words tomorrow but I doubt it. I am more upset about having to drive a flipping Malibu.. It doesn't even say Enterprise on it and all I can thank about is people looking at it think I paid money for it My wife asked me if I could come get her and go cruising tonight

Ya I had a sqealing noise on my cold start ups in the morning couldn't figure out what it was.. It also died 4 times in 5 months and my center LCD between the guages and my radio would dim to low for no reason in the middle of the day. It was at the dealer ship twice. The first time they "cleaned" the belt and about 800 miles later it started squealing even louder so about a week ago I brought it back and they said that there was a TSB for a "belt upgrade" I wonder if this TSB is for all that squealing oh and I drive a v6 auto

Anyone confirm that this TSB does not include the L99? Really it's not a squealing noise but more of a metalic grind. I hate to leave my car for no good reason.
Not sure but it's a 2010 base model and it sucks. First vehicle I have driven in 10+ years thats is not a v-8 and is front wheel drive. No creature comforts besides cruise and power windows/locks. I am half tempted to drive out to my mothers house and unhook my truck for the next couple of days. Had to leave it out there after 3 break-ins in 6 months and just have been using it to pull trailers when needed. She likes to use it to haul the trash out to the street instead ofthe 4 wheeler anyway. |

Talked to the service advisor yesterday afternoon and got them to relisten to it. They heard the noise but still think it's the belt. Hopefuly they know better than me and I turn out to be wrong. Would be nice to be able to pull up TSB's or have them listed on a sticky.

My 1SS makes a little noise on start up that sounds like a bearing knock. I am not worried about this because I had 2 LS1's, a 98 and an 02 and those sounded like the bearings were ready to self destroy on start up. It is the nature of the aluminum engine to make these noises. The noise goes away on warm-up. My 98 had 30,000 on it when I traded it for my 02. My 02 had 60,000 on it when I traded it for my 1SS. Neither engine ever developed a problem from these noises and I did not baby either one of them.

#09-06-01-013A: Accessory Drive Moan/Growl/Groan/Whine Noise When A/C Compressor Cycles (Replace Accessory Drive Belt) - (Jan 13, 2010)
Subject:Accessory Drive Moan/Growl/Groan/Whine Noise When A/C Compressor Cycles (Replace Accessory Drive Belt) Models:2010 Chevrolet Camaro With 3.6L Engine (RPO LLT) Please Refer to GMVIS Excludes Vehicles Built After August 3, 2009 Attention: This condition is likely to be misdiagnosed as an A/C compressor due to the condition only being noticed during A/C compressor cycling. This bulletin is being revised to include vehicle build date information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 09-06-01-013 (Section 06 - Engine). <A href="#ss1-2382089">Condition Some customers may comment on an accessory drive belt moan, growl, groan or whine noise that may be present when the engine A/C compressor cycles at moderate to high head pressures at engine Idle and throughout the RPM range. <A href="#ss2-2382089">Correction Important: VEHICLES BUILT AFTER AUGUST 3, 2009 ALREADY HAVE THE NEW POLYESTER BELT AND SHOULD NOT BE CHANGED. An improved accessory drive belt, P/N 92242956, has been introduced. This new belt features a polyester cord to reduce the stiffness over the current production Kevlar cord belt. This belt significantly reduces this condition. Vehicles built after August 3, 2009 already have the new polyester belt and should not be changed.

Doesn't the A/C have to be on for the compressor to cycle? its been 40-60 degrees here lately so no need for A/C. I have a faint squeal on my V6, but only when the engine is warm and only when accelerating or in neutral tapping the gas, when it is cold I hear nothing. anyways hopefully it is related b/c they just ordered a belt for me. And the service guy said that he cannot condemn the belt tensioner. I guess we'll see. either way, good information to know, thanks!

Just went and picked up my car. They got the wrong part in so I ASSumed they got a V-6 belt. Nope they said they received a bolt.. I guess we will have to wait and see if the next one is at least a belt. The service advisor also assured me it was a TSB for the 6.2L and not the V6. I can't really say anything since I too once did the ordering for a dealership. Typoed a quantity and received a pallete of heads instead of 2. The good news was got the right part anyway
