i would love to throw me some LT's on there but don't want the hassle if i need to smog it often. as for LEO, really? you think they would be bothering you with this stuff?? i can imagine they have more important crimes to prevent, investigate... imo it would take some kind of p$%ck to start giving you crap over a set of headers. - i know on my truck, i have NEVER had an issue with any LEO, and its a 4" straight pipe from the turbo back - and YEAAH you can hear me coming... and leaving.. lol. |

I think you misunderstood the site. Counties that Require a Smog Inspection for Vehicle Registration Renewal Alameda Butte Colusa Contra Costa Fresno Glenn Kern Kings Los Angeles Madera Marin Merced Monterey Napa Nevada Orange Sacramento San Benito San Francisco San Joaquin San Luis Obispo San Mateo Santa Barbara Santa Clara Santa Cruz Shasta Solano Stanislaus Sutter Tehama Tulare Ventura Yolo Yuba There are six counties that require smog certifications within certain Zip Codes only. These counties are: El Dorado, Placer, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Sonoma. All the zip codes in the counties on the top of the list require smog for registration renewal, the six counties on the bottom of the list have only certain zip codes within each county that requires it. I do agree though the wording is a little confusing Here is the link if anyone else wants to see it. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm#BM2539

My car is new. Am I still required to get the biennial smog inspection?
Vehicles registered in areas subject to the biennial smog certification program are required to submit evidence of a smog certification every other renewal period. Starting January 1, 2005, owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification. The registration renewal notice mailed to you by the department will indicate if a smog certification is required. If a smog certification is required and you have not had a smog inspection, you may still pay your registration fees to avoid any late fees. However, you will not receive your new registration or year sticker until the smog information has been received by DMV. NOTE: Upon initial registration, nonresident and specially constructed vehicles 1976 and newer require smog certification. The six or less model years old rule does not apply to these vehicles Counties that require biennial smog inspections are listed above. So it looks like if you are not in any of the counties listed in my previous post or in any of the zip codes in the six counties that are in the small list, you have six years before you have to worry about smogging your car. If you are in the unlucky Counties/zip codes then you have to smog your car every 2 years.

If your vehicle is six or less model years old you do not need a smog inspection. Instead you pay an annual smog abatement fee with your registration. Starting the seventh year you MUST get a smog inspection every other year.

It's like this....Alameda, Butte, Colusa, Contra Costa, Fresno, Glenn, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Madera, Marin, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Sacramento, San Benito, San Francisco, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Solano, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Tulare, Ventura, Yolo, Yuba. These counties require a smog check starting the seventh year, every other year. El Dorado, Placer, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Sonoma These counties only require it IF you reside in certain zip codes ONLY. If you're in these counties but not those zips.....no smog required. Quote:

Ok Ok I stand corrected.
The way I read the rule it looked like that if you were in the list of counties/zip codes you had to get biennial smog no matter what, and that the six year rule did not apply. However the DMV lady said that no matter where you live any car purchased after january 1st 2005 does not have smog for 6 years. That is great news.

Oh well:
Smog Check Program Area Are You In? Below, enter the ZIP code where your vehicle is registered to find out which type of program area you are in. Enter Your 5-digit California ZIP Code: 92126 in county SAN DIEGO is Enhanced Click here to see a list of stations in that zip code area In an Enhanced Area, you must obtain your inspection at a Smog Check station which has the BAR-97 Emissions Inspection System, the most modern type of test equipment. Your car will be tested for harmful levels of emissions of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and Oxides of Nitrogen, an important smog-forming compound. All Smog Check stations in Enhanced areas are required to have the BAR-97 equipment. Your car must be tested every two years, when sold, or upon initial California registration. If your registration renewal notice indicates your vehicle has been directed to a Test-Only Center, then you must bring it to one of these types of stations, which offer testing but no repairs.

Ramps/jackstands in the driveway, with 1 person. It would probably fly with 2 people
