I have seen OBDII simulators. Some of the guys putting small blocks in there mini trucks have used them. However I visual inspection could throw up a red flag in some cases.

just get a PO box in Iowa, and register ur car there...only a short drive from Illinois.....in this great state we don't have emmisions standards. that means no tests to pass and you can do whatever you want to your car (as long as you keep the cats)

You get them from GMPP direct though some vendors may buy them and add their own personal touches!

Here's a video of one being built.

Here's a look at the "piecies parts"

Selling the L99: I wouldn't sell it back to the dealer. Talk to some reputable vandors that would be interested in them. One that jumps to my mind is MAST Motorsports. They do a lot of work on the L99's and sell L99 crate engines. I'm sure they would be interested in a slightly used engine to work on.

My reccomendation for anyone going over 600RWHP would be to beef up the transmission and get a stronger rear end. You keep those two stock and the car won't last much.

Wouldn't it create a PITA for someone to have to tap into the set up of the L99 vs an LS3? I understand you want an auto tranny, but if you really factor everything, you would save another grand by getting the M6 plus the LS3 might be easier to sell and possibly get you more bank.

The guys at Tom Henry have been ALL OVER theirs and the tranny has held up fine. It's over 600 HP. But I think it's a manual. Hmmmmmmm..........

Just my recomendation for both transmissions. It's something I would do, but not necessary.

Now if you are pushing over 800-ish and still have the stock transmission......

Ya, I think I'd be proactive in that case.

Of course Blur has eluded to doing just that later on.

Let's say for a moment that I order with my Camaro the LSX 454 at about $9k. If I can sell the L99 for $6k or more, then that means that the total cost of the swap is $3k plus labor. That's not very expensive.

Now, let's say that I put the very same LSX in my Camaro after driving the Camaro for a while. The L99 is no longer worth $6k, and the $9k LSX cost gets added to the cost of the car. The total cost is dependent on my ability to pay the entire $9k in cash. If I can't pay it now, then every mile I wait costs me resale value on my L99. In this scenario, I'm paying for my Camaro plus my engine and then I might get a few dollars back for the engine. On the other hand, a dealer might be willing to take a brand new engine off my hands for much more, reducing the cost of the overall swap to reasonable levels and allowing me to do this immediately upon receiving the car. Do you see how that is more lucrative?

At this point, not a single member has answered the questions listed. Someone on this forum has done a GM motor swap.
when looking for a take-out motor I don't think it's going to matter if it has 10 miles or 5,000 miles... I don't think most guys in that position are going to pay a big premium for a motor with only 10 miles vs one with less 5,000 miles... at least I didn't when I bought my used motor and I think it's pretty typical... If I'm going to pay the premium for a motor with 10 miles on I would want some kind of warranty like I would get buying a crate motor... and of course there the whole infant mortality with a motor with only 10 miles on it vs a motor with some miles under it's belt...

Saw a take out motor on ebay for $5k.

You could always move out of the state of Cook County, no emission testing done in southern Illinois. None, nada, zip! We also get to own firearms that hold more then 1! Seriously!
