Camaro Launch Control (SS)
So-
Does anyone have any information on the special launch-control mode on the manual SS? How does it work, in technical terms? Thanks!

depress the clutch, floor the gas, put it in 1st gear, dump the clutch,
technically it limits the revs so you are at optimal launch rpms so you have minimal wheelspin

I just hope it is as easy to turn on as traction control on my 4th gen, just the press of a button.

It's bad-ass. The Cobalt SS has it now. Corvette does not have it yet.

in the end isnt launch control just a fancy way for common drivers to feel like they are badass and know how to drive
i have launch control in my 78 camaro. its called my left foot on the brake, my right foot on the gas a little, and my eyes on the tac watching the revs. my brakes are horrible, and i have an auto.

I'm not sure why it makes a difference... obviously if the clutchis in you can rev the motor. But when I read your post I was thinking the same thing... "I'd have it in gear before I reved it... " I think it's just one of those comfort things... If it's in gear then you HAVE to have the clutch all the way to the floor and there's less chance of roasting the clutch???

...so does it switch off automatically once you get going and you're rowing through the gears?

it seems almost the opposite of my car's DSC (dynamic stability control) if i floor it from a stop it limits the power and keeps it from loosing traction. when press the button to turn it OFF, i have a lot more power to launch - @ the expense i will also loose burn out a little more, but its been shown to be faster w/ it OFF since it allows for higher RPMs in all gears when its off and won't shift as soon (automatic) i'm curious to see/feel how this system on the manual camaro will be |

I think it is a cool feature. . . Not sure how mnay times I would use it. I'm not that big into drag racing, but at least the option is there.
