its been 40-60 degrees here lately so no need for A/C.

I have a faint squeal on my V6, but only when the engine is warm and only when accelerating or in neutral tapping the gas, when it is cold I hear nothing.

anyways hopefully it is related b/c they just ordered a belt for me. And the service guy said that he cannot condemn the belt tensioner.

I guess we'll see.

either way, good information to know, thanks!
The AC compressor will cycle if you are using your defroster. It uses the AC system to remove moisture.

Not sure but it's a 2010 base model and it sucks. First vehicle I have driven in 10+ years thats is not a v-8 and is front wheel drive. No creature comforts besides cruise and power windows/locks. I am half tempted to drive out to my mothers house and unhook my truck for the next couple of days. Had to leave it out there after 3 break-ins in 6 months and just have been using it to pull trailers when needed. She likes to use it to haul the trash out to the street instead ofthe 4 wheeler anyway.
Dear Screaming - you say that this is more of a metallic grind. R U sure you are not hearing the gurgling sound many of us SS owners have? Search this site for "gurgle sound". There's a TSB for it (which may or may not fix it).

You're lucky, they gave me an Aveo as a renter, talk about a POS. The lady told me I couldn't have pets or smoke in it. I assume it was because the car had already absorbed as much cigarette smoke as it was able, it reeked. I don't smoke, but my dog does, so I was bummed.

thanks man! Good 2 know... since the weather has been chilly, i always have the defrost/floor setting on. I'll try other settings and also shut it off completly and see if I get the noise... as soon as the snow stops that is!

Got the belt replaced on Friday, noise is gone. New belt is much more flexible.

I havent heard back from the dealership yet, i'm going to call them tomorrow, but I noticed I dont have the noise when I am using the heater through the vents. So i guess my car falls under that TSB also. Good stuff!

Got my belt installed today, they couldn't find the TSB that "venice17517" posted earlier, but turns out it was the Accessory belt that they ordered anyway.
My car's born on date was Dec-2009 so it should not have fallen under this TSB anyway.

anywho, no squeeks or squeals thus far.

Got the belt done yesterday. Now it sounds like the first week after I first brought it home. The sound is still there but is much lighter. New sound now added to it but can't describe it. I am taking her on a 400 mile trip tomorrow so we will see if something gernades I guess. Back to the dealer next week once it starts to become loud again. Do mechanics not use stethascopes (sp?) anymore?

Sorry missed this. No it really sounds like a bad bearing or an over tightened pulley. Not sure what to say other than it has a very distinct metallic sound.

Where can I look to find my build date? The car was purchased in May of 2009.
