Anybody putting the Slick 50 product in with your oil? I have used it on older cars, but not a new one. Is it OK to use on the V^??? Thanks

I recall reading two magazine tests of Slick 50. In both articles Slick 50 did nothing.

The snake oil potions are not worth the money and can also be bad for your oil. They can react with the additives already in your oil and make them not work.

No because it has solids in it [teflon]
ONly 2 snake oils have ever done what they say and have proved it to me. DuraLube and Seafoam DuraLube has saved a few cars for me, best one was my 68 galaxy, lost all my water, pump and fan on the eway. Pissed off I kept on driving. I drove a good 30+ miles to get home, it didn't tick to loud if I kept it over 35 ![]() [ on 75 north, few miles before route 20 in Perrysburgh, all the way to Northwood, by the woodville mall.] Everyone said I screwed it up, fixed what was wrong, started it up and it pured like a kitten. I use to eat 80s 5.0 sticks like candy in that car and it was only a 302 2bb. And Seafoam does wonders for motorcycle carbs. Its a true snake oil as so many funky running problems have been fixed by just running some of it through the gas. Where other carb products with the "same" chemicals don't. [In the Subaru world its used to cure the tick of death for them.] |

Snake Oil. In some cases it can (and has) actually damaged engines. Pass on it and the others like it. Just change your oil IAW the GM specs and you'll be fine.

There's no reason to put any additives in your oil. Just run synthetic and it'll be fine.

Even worse for a wet clutch like in a motorcycle. ------------- Though I forgot my 2nd DuraLube tale, My Mom has a 90s Escort that with the AC on would get you killed pulling out into traffic, quart of DuraLube in the crank case and it was cured. No more falling flat on its face with the AC on. And thats all I did to it [ for xmas and stuff I buy everyone a quart of it. Because it has proven itself to me so many times, I know I don't have to fix everyones car as often ]Should also note in the Galaxy I ran 2 quarts of it at a time, which is ok by the direction on the bottle, which is you can run up to 50% DuraLube. |

The point is...if you properly MAINTAIN your vehicle initially, there is no need for a "cure" to alleviate any damage caused by improper maintenance.
If you buy a neglected car that has problems, sure...go ahead and try whatever floats your boat. I myself had 3 LS1's with over 450k on the odometers, properly maintained, none of them had any compression problems, oil consumption issues or abnormalities with engine wear as per Blackstone labs. If one buys a new car, uses top tier oil, filters, and maintains it...there is no need for any type of additives except for a good fuel cleaner after 30-40k and every 5k thereafter right before an oil change. You should clean the MAF during the same schedule with a MAF cleaner...
