Considering an SS and have a tire question
Hi, I'm new to the board and have a question about buying a Camaro. I live in Pittsburgh, and weather's a factor. Has anybody found a dealer that would swap the Pirelli's for winter tires prior to delivery?
I plan on using the car as a daily driver, and don't really need the high-performance tires. Also, any feedback on dealers in the Pittsburgh area would be appreciated. Joe. |

Hi and welcome.
Are you asking if the dealer would take the stock Pirelli's, keep them as their own, and instead give you some winter tires? I do know someone had theirs delivered and had winter tires installed at the dealership. Whether they bought them or traded the Pirelli's for them I couldn't tell you, maybe they will chime in! |

Buy a second set...
One set for winter. One set for summer. They will also help you out as the car doesn't come with a spare tire and you ever get a flat. |

I live in Pittsburgh too and i suggest that you not drive a rear wheel car in the winter time. I had a rear wheel drive BMW one winter and it was a nightmare despite Blizzak winter tires. I was nervous every time i drove it when the weather was bad and you will be too when you get your Camaro. I ended up buying a beat up used Subaru to drive around when the weather sucks. You will need two cars. One for winter and the other other for summer. There is no way around it.

![]() Let's not turn this into a you-WILL-crash-driving-in-the-snow-thread. OP, your best bet is to call them and ask. You could always call up local tire stores and see what they could do for you as well. |

at the dealership i work at they can add tires to your car deal. ive also seen where they give credit on stock wheels and tires but they usually dont give a full credit because the stuff is considered used since it is installed on the vehicle. i wouldnt worry about it. drive safe, slow, and always slow down comming to lights even if its green. i have a 2004 gto and have no problem on the ice here in texas. you can laugh and say texas isnt compaired, but its like driving on a frozen pond. its the same if not worse. ive never drivin up there but its easier to drive on snow than ice. just be careful have insurance or buy a little beater.

Thanks for all of the information. I contacted a few local dealers, and they can't do anything. It would be great if they could just install a set of winter tires at the dealers. I would probably try to sell the Pirellis and buy a set of all season tires for summer. My concern is driving off of the lot with the Pirellis in the cold weather.

You won't find many options yet for tires either. I ended up going with the Yokohama Parada Spec-X. Its an all season tire. I don't drive mine every day though. It gets parked in weather like we are having now.

try tirerack.com you can buy a winter tire package w/tpms and set up with the dealer and have them ship to the dealer and bill you. if the dealer wants your business ask them to hold the summer tires until you can get them picked up maybe a friend has a pick-up truck or you can rent one if you have to and get them at a later time!!!

This forum is fantastic. Does anybody know if you can use 19 inch rims for winter tires on an SS? I read somewhere that the 19 inch rims might not fit with the Brembo brakes.

You have to be careful which rims you put on the SS. The standard wheels that comes on SS models are 20" wheels. I don't think the 19" wheels will fit over the Brembos (as you mentioned).
BTW, there is a lot of great info in the wiki at: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/wiki.p...e=CAMARO+WIKI& |

As far as a dealer goes, go to Tom Henry in Bakerstown. Top notch and can take care of everything you need. I live in CT, work for GM, and passed a lot of dealers I know well on my way to Pittsburgh to buy my Camaro from Tom. Not that these are bad dealers, but Tom is a fellow enthusiast and has a lot of fans in the Camaro community for going above and beyond. Not because he has to, but because he wants to. If I'm willing to drive that far when I work for GM, that ought to tell you something. You live in Pittsburgh. It's a no brainer! Tom might even have a set of takeoff rims to sell you! I highly recommend him.
