I know people who would buy this car if they sold it. Even for 100k.

In the 1/4... the GS's 12.2 sec @ 117.0 mph vs the GT-R's 11.9 sec @ 120.1 mph. The Z06 kills it and the ZR1 kills it and "bangs it's wife and 20 year old daughter"

If the Vette had AWD it would certainly beat a GTR. Hell I'm betting if the Vette just loss the RUN-FLATS it would beat the GTR in the 1/4.
Umm, no. From anything I've see, the GTR and Z06 are roughly comperable with the slight edge going to the GTR. The only hope that a base Corvette has would be racing from a roll, even then I'm not sure who would win. But in any real race, the GTR would take the base Vette easily.

And don't start with the whole 'well, it has AWD ... give the Corvette AWD and lets see what happens'. If you want to do that, make each car weigh the same. With the same engine. Same weight distribution. Same wheels. Same tires. Same brakes. Same aerodynamics. Same transmission. Make everything that has any influence on performance the same. Otherwise, you are just picking and choosing items to make your car better.

Compare cars on what they have.

I agree close cars - the AWD gets the GTR off the line quicker and that is hard to make up in the Z06 but the longer the race goes on the Z06 will pull it back but from a roll the Z06 will win the torque band in the Z06 is huge in 3rd and 4th. Been there and done it! This is all close enough that its a drivers race (a good driver v. an average driver will win in either car).

And to keep on the point of the thread - I here lots of rumbling about a more retro look for the vette. I agree - gonna be hard to improve on the C6.

Even if we dismiss the "What if" train of thought... the GTR doesn't KILL a base Vette.

As I stated it will beat the Vette but not by much. Against the Z06, yes the GTR is better matched, but in the end the Vette will prevail...

So... "UUUUUMMM YES."

You have no idea how much it pains me to defend the GTR against the Corvette ...

Those two 1/4 mile times you posted earlier are at the slow end for the GTR and fast end for the GS, which is a touch quicker than the base Vette. In reality, expect a half second difference between the GTR and a base Corvette which is massive in a drag race. The Z06 is maybe a tenth or two faster than the GTR. But all this is only in a straight line. The GTR handles better and brakes (and breaks, ) quicker.

I've driven the ZR1, Z06, GS, and own a Z51 modded. I have beaten a GTR in my CTS-V... I have never been impressed with the car and attribute its superior handling to the AWD. That's the advantage... if U can call it that... AT LEAST WHEN DRIVING against me.

The differences in times of the GTR have everything to do with its erratic and inconsistent launches. 0-60 times from 3.3 to 4.1 secs is ridiculous. The Corvette almost always has the same or close launch times depending on which version. ZR1- 3.2-3.4, Z06 3.4-3.6, GS 3.8-4.0, Z51/Base 4.0-4.2.

And i hear ya on defending the Nissan. We are brothers when it comes to this...

I agree... I expected more. I never.. and I mean never thought that my 4door 556HP Cadillac "Floaty Boat" could rip the guts outta "RICE-Zilla."
