Barton Industries has some nice alternatives - http://www.bartonindustries.com/BUYKnobs.html

There's a video on this link showing how to install the shifter.

All of these are for the M6. Has anyone seen any replacement shifters for the A6? I know the 4th gen guys with the A4 were able to to intall a ball shifter that didn't have a release button but the function was retained by pushing down on the shifter ball. It was a very clean install and very high quality. I'm not sure if that company is still around.

I've been searching, but all I've ever found is basically two options for A6. Don't like either of them. Not sure I'd have warm fuzzies pressing down on the shift knob to shift, but I'd choose that over the stock option in a heart beat!
