Angry Broke my parking brake!

I was trying out a new console cupholder mount for my new TomTom GPS but I could not adjust with the car in park but did not want the car to roll. so i applied the brakes and engaged the parking brake, heard a SNAP/CRACK sound and pedal went to the floor and stayed there, also the BRAKE light came on. I pushed down it till i heard the release click and brought it back up did not feel loose but did not feel firm (it still had a a springy tension when pushing it in and letting it go back up) when applying it like i tried to do before the sound I heard. I re applied the e brake and let off the brake pedal and the car started rolling back (it was in reverse) and there was a chime letting me know (as well as the RED BRAKE light on the dash) letting me know it was engaged but it was NOT engaged. I am going to a brake/muffler shop in town I take my car too for stuff I cannot do in my driveway (as well as inspections) tomorrow, I hope the $$$ is not TOO bad .

FYI, this another rant, but I HATE dashboard mounted e brakes ESPECIALLY ones that do NOT have a release handle. I prefer a true handbrake on the console.

Red face

me too, i had my buddy apply and disengage it and i did not see the cable hang or droop down but I am pretty sure it runs near the exhaust pipe but as i said, i could not see it. I am HOPING it just popped loose from the brake drum mounted to the rear wheel brake area. my luck the cable has to be replaced .

Unhappy

UPDATE:

took the car to a brake/muffler/suspension shop in town and they put it on a lift. yep, just as I thought snapped the park brake cable in 2 places one was where the cable attached to the left rear wheel where the assembly is attached to the back of the wheel and inside the car where the pedal assembly is attached to the dash. but the reason why the cable snapped is the brake assembly itself was seized, I mean in a auto tran car where I am mostly parked on level grade I never really used it. so I made an appointment to bring the car back and have them take the wheel off and get a better look at the assembly before they can install a FRESH parking brake cable .

kind of tough to do something like that in west NY in middle of winter. I had my friends garage do it today and they only had to replace the cable and lube up the assembly that makes it work and tested it and it was all good, amount paid? 68 bucks parts and labor .

Warranty? Who pays thousands of dollars for excuses, and accusations? My warranty is replace everything on the vehicle with the real (aftermarket) parts that the vehicle should have been built with, so I can have a box full of parts I can use. Now that's a real warranty.
