Hey guys this is my first post so bare with me.
I come from a turbo background so of course I would love to see a turbo 3.6DI. Most FI cars make a great amount of power with simple ECU tune, fuel and boost mods (depending on the turbo of course). Don’t get me wrong moding a new factory car and voiding the warranty is not on my to do list, but after sometime I think we are going to see some really good support in the form of modifications. I love the V8 and when I think of a Camaro that is the only option that comes to mind but since I am a turbo guy its only natural to slap twins on to all ready impressive v6. Yes the compression is not what it needs to be but if Chevy comes out with a turbo Camaro that will be my working base. With less weight (since it will be a V6, although the way things look car keep adding weight instead of loosing it) and equipped with a 6 speed trans it would dominate. I don’t see a S/C working that great on a V6 but the V8 should be something to keep in mind, if not do the same and slap twins on a V8 end/ |

I'm almost 40 and can afford either and get decent insurance rates.
The 6 has alot of appeal for me for several reasons. * I won't be drag-racing. * If I want to go fast, I go to mountain roads during fairly deserted times. Yes the V8 can do this too- but the 6 is plenty for this kind of driving. * Fuel-economy is important if you commute. * I like high RPM cars. It's more fun to wind a car up for me then to get off the line torque since I don't plan on racing this car. Anything sub-6seconds is sufficient for the freeway on ramp. * I could afford the SS1, but I doubt I could convince the wife to let me have the SS2. An LT2/RS is affordable and I would guess a nicer daily environment to drive in. An SS would be great for an extra car, but I really wouldn't want it as a daily driver. |

Icky I agree...I'm leaning to a 2LT RS myself...I think this car is going to surprise alot of people..I also think that next year we will see a DI V8...and I will do a trade then ,if not happy with the 6.

You really think GM would sneak a DI V8 right under our noses and have it ready for the 2011 MY?

My vision is of a 5.7L with ~450 hp and ~25 mpg hyw. Arriving in 2011 for the 2012 MY. I don't know why I think that but it all sounds right.

Edit: Does GM even have a 5.7L V8? I thought the V8's used in the Camaro's are 6.2L.

Well, it won't happen for the 2010 MY since thats whats coming out early next year. And no, GM doesn't currently have a 5.7L BUT that is the same displacement as the classic 350 small block that we know and love.

Oh sorry I meant the year 2010, so 2011 MY. But why do you think they would come out with a 5.7L V8, why not just add DI to the 6.2L? Isn't that cheaper?

As for why a 5.7 vs 5.0, 5.4 or any other? Tradition. 350 cu (5.7L) is the 'standard' size of the Chevy small block. Something seems missing without it in the lineup. Like a mustang without a 5.0L availible.
