It's human nature to be skeptical of things like this. That's why I emailed Amy Rectenwal at emipromo.com to confirm the claims of Scott and Jeff. She confirmed that, yes, she did send the emails to those email addresses at the exact time of the timestamp shown on the emails that Scott and Jeff posted here.

Winners were selected and contacted on January 30th, 2008, as per the sweepstakes rules. Scott was contacted at a later date after one of the initial winners opted not to take the prize.

how much would that suck to actually win one of these sweepstakes, only to not be able to pay taxes and have to forfeit prize? I'd go absolutely insane.

I found that to be insane, he wasn't thinking he could have sold the car for way more than the taxes are. Also the 1090 is for 09 so he had from last January until end of 09 to come up with the money.

one critical piece of advice:

HIRE A GOOD CPA

I once won a large vacation through a sweepstakes, and he [my cpa] helped me a lot.
