But to the OPs question, is the Camaro hurting sales, not is it worth it.
No, Mactruck, I don't think it is "killing" Corvette sales. The horrid sales the Corvette is experiencing are, as mentioned, are probably more due to the economy than anything else. The GS should help for 2010 MY. Buuuuhhhhhhttt, there are buyers that instead of a $36,000 SS might have bought a Corvette for $56,000 or more. Some buyers wanted the newest, coolest car in the showroom and arguably that is the Camaro. So, YES, it it probably impacting sales somewhat. I haven't seen a number internally that would say how much but it would be silly to suggest the Camaro hasn't hurt the Corvette sales a bit. Now back to comparing how an LS3 Corvette is better than an LS3 Camaro......................

For some years now, at the end of the model year, a 1LT Corvette can be bought for $39,900 from one of the aggressive internet-active dealers. My base 2007 cost me $41k from a local dealer that is certainly not that competitive. But, the economy has tanked Corvette sales and the Camaro just has to be having an effect too. I am on the fence for my next purchase, Corvette or Camaro and having only briefly test driven the 2SS Camaro, yeah the two cars are different driving experiences, but I believe I can be plenty happy with the Camaro.

I am lucky enough to own both a Camaro and a Corvette. Two different cars all together and both great in different ways but never the less, great. I don't think one will ever kill the other, but thats just me. I paid 30K for my Vette with 17K miles, 10K less than the Camaro!

oh yeah vette sales are very low this year and they have steadily been declining since 2007. obviously camaro sales have been very strong, but it is a new model intro, lots of excitement for the release and people have been waiting for the new model for years to come out. if i was to have 36k, i would save the extra 2k and get the vette...i don't need a back seat. used camaros' should soon be in the high teens for the 1LT models...remember the economy is still bad and the new model is coming out...lots of camaros still for sale on dealer lots and lots of used ones out there. |

Oh no... another Camaro-vs-Corvette thread.
Its been said... different cars, different buyers. Grand Sport is basically a Z06 with an LS3. (In a nut shell) And a means to almost get a Z06 vert. Nice car that GS! When talking dollars... I paid $38,000 for my C6 1LT in 2007 (brand new-GMS) and $33,500 for my 2SS/RS in 2009 (also GMS) With cost increas on the C6, I am guessing your about another 5-7 grand to get into a base 1LT over a loaded 2SS. But, a 1LT Corvette is lightyears ahead of a 1LT Camaro. Really a 1LT C6 is plenty most everything is standard except ginger bread options. I should have added the Z51 but oh well... |

Same comments here, I drive my 2006 LeMans Blue Corvette and my wife drives her 2SS RS 6M Rally Yellow Camaro.
[QUOTE=Indpowr;1477829]We do own both. Corvette is mine and the Camaro is mainly the wifes. 100% different car The Corvette is: HP is much more violent when it comes on Power curve pulls longer and harder Steering is more responsive (point and shoot) Brakes on a dime with not much fading Your more in touch/tune with the car Car is and feels A LOT lighter |

I don't think that the Camaro will ever "kill" the Corvette, and I don't want to be flamed here because I'm a Chevy girl to the bone, but...
Ford introduced the Mustang in '64 as the "affordable" sports car (for those of us who could not/would not pay for the 'Vette), and Chevy quickly answered with the '67Camaro, thus creating a new class of sports/muscle car. Corvette is regularly compared with the Viper, Ferrari and Lamborghini because it is a "sports" car...even though it is the cheapest of that category. The Camaro, Mustang and Challenger are "muscle" cars, which therefore defines my perception of "different class." The Corvette has never gone out of production in almost 60 years. People who can afford a Corvette and want a Corvette will always buy a Corvette. It's the original American sports car. Period. Hey...I want a Corvette, but I LOVE Camaros...that's why I've bought 3 of them!!!!
