Paint issues on new SS need opinions?

So I picked up my BRAND NEW Camaro SIM SS/RS on 12/24/09 after waiting 2 weeks for my dealer to get it from another dealer out of state (no big deal). Being that I picked it up on 12/24. (and it was not a xmas gift). I brought it straight home parked it in the garage and covered it as I had to go to dinner. Anyway i left town the next day for 3 weeks. Drove the car a little when I got home. I have actually driven it 200 miles total still.

Anyway I decide to clay bar and detail the exterior, and I find a paint run on drivers door. Then as I start looking closer I find overspray in rear fender well and overspray on the door and rear quarter. It is down low on both sections and pretty hard to see unless you stand at the right angle. especially with the silver.

So I take the car to a local company that does very high end repairs, for local dealers in my area, and he determines that the car has no bondo or filler, but it definitely has had paint work. And bad paint work at that.

Now keep in mind still only 200 miles. But, I have had for 5 weeks.

I take it to the dealer i bought it from and tell them I don't know who did the repair, and thay can't tell me. But, I want my guy to repair it cause i obviously don't trust them. My guy wants 1,200.00 to repair they will only give me 271.06 because thats what GM will give them. Or repair it in their shop to my liking. SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this car as a 3rd car not a daily and planned on keeping it for a loooooooooong time to go with my 70 Formula Bird that I have had for as long time. So I am obviosly not happy about painting at all!

I did check the car at the dealer when I took it. But I did not see this, obviously or I would have never taken the car.

Anybody got any other ideas or suggestions as to a better way to deal with this? :mad026 0:

Ask if you can see what the dealer's done on previous paint jobs. They might not do "very high end repairs" as you put it, but they may actually do a good job on a stock paint job fix. Worth looking into before making a decision one way or the other.

Drive it through the dealership's showroom window, and claim the accelerator stuck....oh, wait....sorry, that would be a toyota. Nevermind.

My thought is that if they did the bad repair. They might mess it up worse and I'll end up with 4 layers of paint and a bad color match.

Actually, there was someone else on here who had a similar problem with a black one and had to bring a lawyer in the deal. I believe he ended up getting a new car.

I can't say it hasn't crossed my mind. I was thinking of calling the local news or my attorney. I did buy a BRAND NEW car after all.

Maybe someone took it out when you were away for 3 weeks, got a scratch and decided to get a quick fix on it, so you would never know.

That's IF they did the repair, they might have had it traded in from another dealer. I figure it's worth looking into and seeing their work on other cars if you can, to get an informed decision.

Wasn't that the guy who thought that the dealer tried to pass an unreported wreck onto him though? If that's the case, it's a lot more complicated than it got dinged or scratched being pulled off the truck or whatever and they just painted it.

You can try to take it to another dealer and see what they say.
