Go with Mobil 1 full syn. That is what comes in the engine from the plant. GM must know something or they would not put it in. That is all I ever us in any of my vehicles. Really good stuff!

Change your oil when your oil life monitor suggests, not the interval your oil change shop recomends. It will save you money a lot if you use Mobil 1.

There is a lot of technology behind the OLM.

You'll be happy to know I've got 5050 miles on mine and still have the original oil in it. Onstar says I will need to change my oil around 10,000 miles.

I actualy had quite a bit of crud in my LS3 factory fill oil at that point so, yes I think you should do a change now. Mobil 1 was the right stuff and you can't go wrong with that. I am sticking with the computer intervals after that.

I also changed the fluid in my 6M. The original stuff looked totaly clean when it came out but the synchronizers REALLY like the new Mobil 1 synthetic ATF I put in there. I would advise all SS guys with manual trannys switch to that fluid. It works much better than the stock fluid. It is rather stinky though.

The rear end is next on my list but no big rush. I have some RP left over from a while ago that I might try in there. It wasn't good for my 40 year old Muncie but lets see how it works in the new Camaro differential.

Hope this helps,

-Mark.

Is there some reason you do not believe what's in the owners manual?

3000 miles is a waste of money. The shops tell you this to get you in more often so they have more chances to upsell you something. I do my own maintenance and repairs most of the time. I changed my oil at 2500 again at 5000 and will now go by the oil life monitor. I did the two early oil changes to make sure everything was fine and to get the breakin crud out. As for Royal Purple, if I remember correctly, it is not GM approved and neither is Amzoil. I think they are great oils, but I'm sticking with Mobil 1 for now.

I don't recall seeing a time frame. At the current rate, the oil is going to be almost a year old when the car has 3000 miles. Never had to deal with synthetic. Maybe time is not a factor.

The owner's manaul states to change the oil at least once a year.
