Help Question: Bluetooth/Handsfree

Hey guys the whole Bluetooth/Handsfree thing, that's all through onstar correct? I mean you have to pay to use it right? Same with XM Radio eventually?

Thanks for the help

Welcome to the club fellow Lubbock person!

Bluetooth/Handsfree is part of the C&C package and once you buy the car (exclusive to the 2LT and 2SS) it is yours. Onstar has a phone that you can buy minutes for or pay month to month IIRC. Personally I bought minutes for $18.xx. The minutes/service will run out when your subscription to OnStar runs out. XM you have for three (3) months. After, you can pay month to month or a bulk payment. People have been getting 50% off their OnStar renewal for about $77.xx.

Again, welcome and hope to see you around town!

Pairing your cell phone with the car using bluetooth is free and not part of OnStar. This allows you to use your cell phone handsfree in the car by utilizing the radio speakers and the same microphone that is there for OnStar. It is available as an option on the 1LT and standard on the 2LT/2SS. I use it all the time with my Nokia E71x phone from AT&T.

As an alternative, OnStar also contains a cell phone module (basically a pre-paid type thing where you car is assigned a phone number). It also utilizes the same microphone/speaker hands-free setup as a bluetooth connected cell phone. You pay by the minute and they "claim" that you can get service in places where your cell phone typically can't find a signal. Might be good to have a few minutes paid for in advance, like TommyTSquared did, for an emergency or something.

+1 ...

I actually used the instructions in the owner's manual and my phone sync'd up with no problems or issues. The feature is in the sound system and not a part of OnStar so there aren't any subscription or payment issues.

On the XM, let the 3 month expire totally. Then call XM and ask for the promotions desk. They have a $79/year rate for expired renewals. When you add the fees, taxes, licenses; it will run a touch over $90 for the next full year...about 1/2 of what they try to get from you on the first try. After you renew, get in the car, turn it on and use your cell phone to call XM to send a new signal. If the radio is on, it will take about 2-3 minutes for it to be receiving like it was new.

Good luck.

S.

Speaking of XM--I'd let mine lapse for about 3 months, they called the other day and gave me 5 months for $23

Your worried about scorn? The first call I recieved was from my daughter. I was listening to the radio and all of a sudden my car started ringing. What is going on I thought as I attempted to turn the non touch screen display into a touch screen, all the while I knew I was doing it wrong but I did it anyway. I finally recovered enough to use the button on the steering wheel. I told my boss about this a few months ago, and he admitted to a similar experience with his new truck.

If the bluetooth feature is just a program on my radio and not a feature of OnStar, how can I get this program?
When I follow the steps in the manual and go to config I don't see phone settings in the sub menu.

Please help....

which model do you have? if you don't have a 2SS you don't have the Bluetooth capabilities.. do you have steering wheel audio controls? if you don't then you don't have bluetooth.

Yeah I think it has to be either a LT 2 or a SS 2 to have those capabilities.

if you get the C&C package with the 1LT you get it also.
Since his profile says he has an SS he would have to have the 2 SS since you cannot get the C&C package with the 1SS.
