MGW vs Barton?

After reading a blue-zillion threads on short throw shifters, I have narrowed it down to these two.

I understand that the MGW is the whole assembly while the Barton is not.

I understand that the Barton is much lower priced.

I understand that the MGW installation is more difficult than the Barton.

I'm interested in shifting ease and troublefree operation. If you throw out installation time differences and cost differences, which would you chose? Any feedback from those who have tried both?

TIA for your responses.

Strange this may be a hard question to answer as this is not apples to apples. While both are excellent products, one is an entire assembly and the other is just the shifter rod if you will. I must preface by saying I have not used either product but I am dead set on installing the MGW when the time comes. The MGW addresses the weakness in the stock shifter assemby such as flexion in the rear body mount. Also the tighter machine tolerances.

I think the question you need to ask is what are YOU trying to accomplish? If it is smoother shifting that is directly influenced by the shift rod then the Barton is your choice. If you are looking for smoother shifting directly influenced by the whole assembly then its MGW. For what's is worth I dont think you can go wrong with either.
Cheers

While I have not installed the MGW yet, I have it in my possession and have given it a thorough examination. The build quality is fantastic; everything is very tight and well put together. There is also a ton of sound dampening material, which was my big concern when chosing a shifter. The Barton also sounds like a great product, and if I had not gone MGW, it would've been my next choice.

After much deliberation and back and forth I went with the MGW and I LOVE it!! It's so much better than the OEM, great spring action, much shorter throws and it just feel so much more solid....like it should have been there all along! It only took 2 hours to install and it's not at all hard to do! ...and remember it has adjustable throws!! Customer service was also great, George does a great job!! Just search MGW install and you'll find links with video for the install, all step by step..piece of cake!! As far as Barton goes I've never installed one but I'm sure they make a great product also....It just comes down to what you really want !!...I have installed pics if your interested but not at work..just PM me and I'll send them out! Good luck and DRIVE ON!!!

My technical IQ isn't high enough to understand the difference. I'm interested in shifting ease and troublefree (no noise) operation. Basically improved drivability that will put a smile on my face.

IMO, if you don't mind paying more and dealing with a few more steps in the installation process (or have someone else do the install), get the MGW. I personally have the Hurst and should have gotten the MGW and might still. Their unit design eliminates the rattle issue that is common to after-market short throw shifters. The Camaro tranny linkage has varying tolerances from car to car, and I happen to have one that has more slack than others, hence the rattle.

Both seem to be the best shifters out there. I went with Barton based on throw reduction, looks, and price. MGW offers the ball now too but the Barton still looks way better in my opinion.
I can say you DONT have to replace the whole shifter to get what you are looking for.
If you don't like the Barton at least you can get your money back.
Either way you cant go wrong

i have the barton sitting at home... have to install it yet. i chose this shifter based on cost, looks, and the fact that it's an easy install. $200 and a money back guarantee, you cant go wrong. MGW looks like a helluva nice shifter however and i would have chosen this one if it was a bit cheaper. i know you pay extra for the whole new assembly but just how bad could the factory assembly be? i've never had a short throw shifter before so the barton is a definite step up from any stock shifter...

as stated earlier, not really apples to apples, but after installing 3 of the BARTON shifters, i feel there is no other shifter of that type that has the quality AND customer service that BARTON offers, along with the option of customized shift knobs and adjustable shift height/throw length
