Rear parking assist?

I just got an email from my dealer sending me the window sticker from my new Camaro. I noticed it has rear parking assist which I didn't know was standard on 2LT and 2SS's....and neither did my dad, a 2SS owner (#32365). It's in his manual but there is nothing that resembles what the manual is describing in his car. What's the deal?

It's also not on his window sticker and it's clearly on mine.

They started putting them on around 48*** or so. His car probably has the "chicklets" on the bottom of the front fenders, and yours will not. Mine has chicklets and rear sensors so that is sort of a rarity. Mine is 48*** VIN. So this is all normal, hope it helps..............

Yeah his has the chicklets, very glad mine doesn't! His was really early, one of the first VR's in central Texas (according to the dealer). Are there any other options/standard features added since then? Thanks for the info.

The parking assist described in the manual is different than what actually ended up on the car. The manual mentions lights above the passenger seats that indicate distance but instead the car makes an audible alert instead.

Also, the parking assist was recently added to the Convenience and Connectivity package which is standard on 2LT and 2SS but can be added to 1LT for an extra fee.

I haven't heard of any new options but they recently stopped adding the GM Performance Division badge under the hood.

Do you have the sensors on your rear bumper? If so, you've got the system in your car. VINs lower than somewhere in the 50000 to 60000 range do not have it (cars produced before mid-Aug 2009).

That said, the manual describes the system as if it went into all of our cars. It also describes a light system that should appear on rear interior deck between the tops of the back seats. It turns out, there is no lighting system at all. Just beeps that increase in frequency as you approach a detected obstacle behind the car.

I love this car, but the manual is easily the worst one I've seen for any make of car. I think GM should re-publish a corrected (electronic) version and make it available online to those who want it.

Hope this helps!

Awesome, thanks. He's all up in arms about this because his ONLY gripe with the car is the rear visibility. Anyone know of an ability for the dealer to install it? I doubt it.

Hi Hayley,

It can be retrofitted onto the car.... I do not know if they can just drill the rear valance, or if it needs to be replaced, but it can be done... My 2SS, 60117 has them and not the chicklets... I am so thankful my Camaro has the sensors as it would be a huge pain in the backside to get into my garage without them.... It's still tough...and a friend that took hischicklets off of his car gave them, to me, just trying to decide if Iwant to put them on now...

Wish you had your car last Saturday, we had a great time meeting Pat from New Mexico...There will be other times soon though... everybody was talking abut it and wants a repeat...

Thanks for the info, I'll pass it along to my dad. And Hayley's my cars name, not me . As soon as I get mine I can't wait to make a run with y'all, would have loved to make this one. We should all make a run out to coopers in Llano this summer.

Sorry,

I kinda wondered about that after I posted that...

Colored candy covered pieces of gum....bought 3/8" x ooohhh sorry

Actually they are approx 1" square chrome buttons that have the GM letters on the face... They are put on the front fender just behind the front wheel, below where it says Camaro, quite a ways below it...

Look just behind the front tire...

They've been putting them on all GM cars since about 06. I remember being a member of a Corvette forum at the time when they started showing up. HATED them with a passion. Hate them on my dads Camaro and I was VERY happy to find out they wouldn't be on mine. I was already planning to remove them even before I ordered the car.
