Whats up with dealers in San Diego??

New guy Here, future owner.

Well, i called several dealers this last couple of days, and i don't know if its because i asked them to quote me an LS, but 2 of them said that they would call me in 15 minutes, and its been 2 days ,Actually one of the dealer i called 1 week before and the same thing happened, the second time I told the sales rep that no one called me before, and he said that this time they would, and well guess what??

Anyways, its funny how my last 2 new cars that i have bought have been from dealers not in San Diego, Weird but the best service and best deals i got was on the Los Angeles are dealers, i have no idea why

I currently have 2 very nice quotes from dealers 150 miles away, the local guys never called, so for the third time i will be buying my new car outside of San Diego.

BWT this Forum Rocks , tons of info, and very nice people here.

Welcome to the site!!

Have you called Quality Chevrolet in Escondido or Jimmie Johnson Chevrolet in Clairemont? Both very good places. Call back if you did! They're busy selling Camaro's!!

Yes, this is a great site with lots of great people and info! Good luck!

Also, go to the Chevy site, build you own to get a price, then do a dealer inventory and call them

Jajaja, actually the place where ive called twice and got no call back is Jimmie Johnson, didn't want to flame them but...

The good thing is that there is a whole lot of dealers here in SoCal, and im sure some one will want my business..

I have a totally nob question.
When you place an order do you negotiate the price at the time of the order or when its delivered.
ive never ordered a car before so i have no idea.

When you order the car is when you'll work out all the details... Good luck!

Trying to price out a car over the phone is not a good idea. Very few places are going to take you seriously unlesss you show up in person. No one is going to offer you a good deal over the phone because there is no commitment from the customer. It's another reason why dealers won't give you a written sales price. They will only give you a rock bottom price if you're willing to sign, otherwise you could take that price to another dealer and have them price match. Don't get me wrong, there are exceptions, but if you buy locally you can develop a relationship with the dealer and that will help if you experience warranty issues. I bought my SS in L.A. and had Jimmie Johnson due some warranty work for me. It's a great dealership but I know I got better treatment from them because I bought two trucks there. Just my two cents.

I've always used the dealer website; find a car similar to what you want and use the "contact" of "make offer" function. It has never taken more then a day for me to get a call from the dealer.

When you cold call you usually will get sent to the regular sales guys. At most dealerships the web/internet dept is diff.

This worked for me both in Phoenix, and here in Philly.

Good luck!

I'd watch the dealer markup in San Diego. Not sure what it is now, but was pretty high. I live in S.D. but got mine in Las Vegas. Henderson Chevrolet.

I wasn't aware thee was any negotiating of price at this point. I thought MSRP was pretty much the best anyone can do?

Well, the phone calls where just to get some inventory information, i just wanted to know if they had any LS in stock, and they where supposed to check and call me back in 15 minutes, i don't know about you, but that's extremely poor customer service.

But no worries, as i said before, im no stranger to buying outside San Diego,

Its also a really good idea to get offers via email, i have 3 really good offers in email, that means i have control

Good luck! That's where I had my problem. All the SD cars in stock the dealers wanted $5~$8K over invoice! Bub-bye...

Although, today, it might be different! I ordered in June '09
