I'm undecided if I want to do this yet. I thought, for those of you that have done it, could help me make my decision. Could you guys please post some pics of your RALLY YELLOW engine covers. Thanks Guys...

That looks great. That is exactly what I want. Are those decals for the letters or did you have them painted black. I like the SS plate up front too.

Not wanting to spend $350 to $450 for an engine cover, I decided to try the DIY route. I picked up a standard engine cover from another member and bought some paint. If it doesn't work out I'm out about $120 (and maybe there's the chance it could be salvaged/stripped and done professionally anyway). So what the heck... it's worth a shot, right?

Here's my work in progress. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to hit it with the clear coat and then take all the tape off to see what it really looks like.

(Sorry for the bad pic... I can't find my "real" camera!

I think one of the kids got hold of it.

)

Painted mine at the body shop i work at and had a friend make the stickers/graphics for me and i made the SS cover-up piece.

After the tape came off...

I need to do some touch up work but you can see the "bumblebee" effect that I'm going for.

here's my Bumblebee setup. I didn't want to get raped by getting the ones like LPE sell so I decided to try my own modding skills. I basically took my stock cover and I split it in two. I then sanded down the edges and off they went to my buddy who works at a body shop.

low and behold, here's the finished product. total cost was $50 to my buddy and a couple hours worth of modding elbow grease. much better than getting screwed for $500 to $700 for the commercially available ones. they actually turned out pretty sweet for a lot less than the well known name companies that provide the same thing.
