could zr1 s/c be used on camaro ss

just wondering if you could use the blower on zr1 being that the ls9 is a s/c ls3 or is there more to it

This is an unlikely possibility. The gap between the rumored 550-hp LSA and the LS3/L99 is already substantial. Throwing a nearly 640-hp LS9 in the mix leaves too much room between Camaro trims.

The OP is asking if "Technically" is possible to use the LS9 blower on LS3 engine, so he could possibly buy the blower from GM than Magnason? I think that's what he was asking.

People like LPE or ADM Performance or Hennessey might be able to answer that question, since they have worked on LS9 engines.

but I mean mechanically is it possible? not in a business sense, could you use the 4 chamber s/c from zr1 and bolt it on a ls3 if you own a ss already

I dont see why you couldnt. Its the same motor essentially. But I would bet it costs more and is less effective than an aftermarket blower.

I *think* I've read somewhere (a long time ago) that the head is different than stock LS3 head which means it would not work with LS3 head.

@OP: You're better off to buy a S/C that is designed to fit exactly the heads on LS3 (like TVS2300, Edelbrok e_Force, KB, Whipple) than trying to retrofit the LS9 S/C.

The heads are a little different, but it's my understanding the ports and locations, are pretty much the same. LS9/LSA heads are cast using a different method have swirl vanes cast in the valve bowl area to my recollection. Physically, I believe the 2300 should swap on, but I think there are probably more efficient ways to get there (i.e. aftermarket top-mounts), just like the OP said.

I'm sure you could but it would cost nearly 6k for just the major components. You would still need fuel rails, injectors, throttle body, coolant system, belt system, custom tune, etc etc etc.....

So unless a ZR1 owner is literally giving you his after upgrading, it would still be cheaper to buy aftermarket.

Im pretty sure the heads are the same, just different valves and sizes. Same ports though. The ls7 heads are different.

The heads are a different casting with more meat in a few critical places and swirl port intake runners. But the ports should all still line up.

Would be a LOT of money spent if it didn't fit correctly...
