Weird noise on V8 2ss Camaro - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

when i start my 2ss, after a while i hear a weird noise (metal sounding) noise coming from around the exaust area... also you could hear it sometimes when im in a complete stop and begin to go on 1st.. does anyone know what might be that noise?

i really cant say its a rattling sound, i really cant explain it.. its just some weird sound,

Do you still have factory exhaust ? Or have you changed it ?

yea i stil have the same exhaust from the factory, well in a way its a ratling noise

it makes that noise when i put it to 1st and go, not all the time though

Are you running 87 octane? if you are that could be the noise.

I think I have the same noise you describe. It is a buzzing noise coming from the rear of the car. Sounds like a heat shield loose but it only happens when the engine is at 1100-1300 RPM and under load. In 6th gear it happens from 60mph to 63mph but it happens in any gear. Anyone else have this issue?

Yes, I have that issue. I took it to the dealer and they are replacing the entire exaust system, apparently the innards of the muffler came apart and were rattling around in the pipe. Take it to a chevy dealer and have it looked at.

Sounds to me like it could be two different things:

1) If you have the GFX kit it could be your tail pipe making contact with the chrome in the rear diffuser... I had that happened and it sounded horrendous and only happened at low RPM's

2) I've heard stories of a nut from the spoiler vibrating loose and getting stuck inside the trunk. That should be pretty easy to diagnose, just open the trunk and shake it a bit to see if that's what it is.
