Not that I'm trying to push Fords, but the Mustang GT500 has been one of the predominant "affordable" sports car for the past 4 years. It was one of the few cars to offer 500HP at a moderate sports car price. The only other cars that offer that much power, stock, that weren't classified as "exotics" were often 30-40k more than the GT500. Given that it is more expensive than a 1SS Camaro, I would not say it is the most cost effective horse power, but it is one of the best in overall performance for the price.

All that being said, I would still buy a 2010 Camaro over a 2010 or 2011 GT500 because it looks so much better. But as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Love my Camaro - but for me, it is NO way the ultimate sports car. It's an affordable muscle car. If I had more $$, I'd be in a Vette right now If I had tons of $$$, the cars others pictured above would be in my mansions multi-garages...

I own a 2010 Camaro and I have owned 3 corvettes.

THe ultimate sports car in the world is the Shelby Aero Twin Turbo. And the fastest.

Not restricting by cost I'd say Im divided between the Bugatti Veyron and the CCX. The Bugatti Veyron is packed with tech to make it fast as all hell. The CCX is pure power with nearly no tech interfering between driver and machine.

If money was no object - then I'd definitely buy one of these.

I can't believe no one has said the Z06. It really isn't that hard to design a quick car with an unlimited budget. Just think how many $100+K sports cars are out there:

Noble M400
F430
911 Turbo, GT2, GT3
Pagani Zonda
Lamborghini Gallardo
McLaren F1

The list goes on.

To design a fast car that doesn't cost an arm and a leg is much much harder. That's why I think the two or three credible best sports cars are the Elise, like mickss said, the Z06 and maybe the Nissan GT-R. My opinion.

Exotics are built in a variety of these segments to be the ultimate in style, luxury, or performance.

For me, the Camaro is among ultimate production sports cars. Those that are substantially faster than it don't belong in the sports car category because they are designed to be exotic. The GT-R is not a regular sports car. It is an exotic sports car. The price and style forget the function of being a sporty car and fill a higher role, usually being a status symbol. Is the Camaro a status symbol? If so, then you might argue that it fits this description as well, making it a member of the elite exotic sports cars, and thus an ultimate sports car.

I would describe the Camaro as the ultimate, affordable sports car. It performs with refined handling that can be used both on a track and on a street. It has function and form. It has available technology and style that puts it on the same page as Porsches with a price point that keeps it in comparison articles with Mustangs.

Is it really that drivable? :seesaw:
Well, using your definition the I would have to say the 2010 GT500 by far. It gives one exotic power, world class fit and finish, great interiors, with high options all while looking cool and handling well. All for under $50k. What more could one ask for.

Independent rear suspension, I've been asking for that since 05

Since I own both a Corvette C6 and a 2SS I would say the Corvette is my choice as a sports car and the Camaro as a modern day Muscle car. Love em both

I think that when it comes to exotics it's whatever flips your lid. For me it would be a Saleen. American power. The 2006 Ford GT has impresive numbers. For $150K it will kick ass on the Ferrari. My Camaro has 575HP for under $60k, thats hard to beat. Anyway it's interesting to read everyone's opinion. There is a lot of great cars out there, but a Camaro is hard to beat when comparing $ per HP.

Over rated. I'm glad it doesn't have it. Just more weak parts to break.
