Great dealer experience for a change!

We're all quick to post when we have a bad dealer experience; I thought I would post a good one for a change of pace!

I picked up my car (2SS/RS) last week from Terry Rouda at John L. Sullivan Chevrolet (Roseville/Sacramento CA). I met Terry for the first time when I picked up the car, having only previously exchanged emails and phone calls.

Terry was no B.S., knows and likes cars, and gave me my USAA discount and price down to the penny before I walked on the lot. Admittedly, my purchase was easy... no trade-in, no financing, and I ordered back in January. Terry even killed the "upsell" discussion with the Finance guy so that I was in and out with minimum hassle.

I love my car, and I actually enjoyed the experience with the dealer. I've seen a lot of dealer bashing on the website. I just thought I would offer a counter point!

seems like you appreciate your car more when you have a good buying experience.

False.

I wasn't really saying that the dealer was good, only that Terry was a straightforward guy. Which seems unusual based on folks feedback on this forum. The only relationship I have with the dealership is that I gave them a bunch of money, and they gave me a car. If you think I'm just doing this to be a shill then you're probably a little more cynical than I am. And a response from me won't change your mind.

It's funny the "love/hate" relationship that we all have with the dealers. We love getting a good deal, feeling like we know more than them, getting our discounts, and using the internet to level the playing field. But we hate having to negotiate, and we all feel that it makes the relationship antagonistic. I'm not sure what the right answer is here. Saturn had a good model... price you see is what you pay. But people didn't feel like they were getting a "deal", so they were never incented to buy sooner than later. So they put off their purchases, figuring that they could always come back if they didn't find a better deal somewhere else. I don't know what the right answer is; I just think that we're all a little hypocritical when we say that we want a good deal but that we hate negotiating.

Nice

You need to bring that bad boy to the Treasure island meet on Saturday. Good to hear that Sullivan might be changing from the high pressure tactics. That's what I had the one and only time I bought from them. Wheeler here in Y.C. has always done me right. Nice ride and welcome to the Gen 5 family!

Good Lord Buddy.....

It was a reference to you getting a nice car.

Maybe tone it down some chief and say thanks when somebody pays you a compliment.

"chief"... that made me laugh. Sorry, it's just that when I read my post, it did sound like a potential shill, and I didn't want it to seem that way. I'll lower my defensive shields.

You can't read tone on the internet.

No problem and enjoy your car.
