I think they had some decent ideas, available packages (rear hatch tent, bike carriers, center console cooler, etc), but the minivan bones and styling were awful.

Dude, funny story...

So Me and my wife are at the hospital the other day, as my wife is preggers and was getting her checkup. So we got a little time to kill, and we are sitting in the Camaro all the way at the end of the parking garage. I see this dude come out from between two cars. I sh!t you not, dude was dressed like a pimp. Long leather trenchcoat, wide brimmed hat, etc. So he turns around and takes a survey of his parking job. I guess if didn't like it, because he got back in his car and fiddled around with it some more. He gets out, takes another gander, then does the same thing!

Now the whole time he is doing this, I'm thinking to myself this has got to be one awesome car this guy got to be that worried. I couldn't actually get a decent look at it, because there was a Tahoe parked in the foreground. I just saw the tip of the nose backing in and out. Finally, he was satisfied and left. When it was time for my wife's appointment, I actually made her walk out of our way to see what kind of car he was driving.

....A freshly waxed, pristine condition Pontiac Aztec. It was the most useless extra 100ft I've ever walked in my entire life.

As a previous owner of an 02 Aztek, I am used to all the negativity. But to people who own them, they are great cars. I loved it and hated to part with it, but it was for the Camaro, so I sacrificed.

Btw, that video was of an 01, the first year Aztek came out, not an 02. In 02 they made the gray cladding body colored and added a rear spoiler.

The original concept looked rather good.

The problems occurred when they were forced to graft that onto what is otherwise a minivan:

I had one as a company vehicle for awhile. I really liked it, I always thought it drove like a smaller car rather then a typical mini-van. Was great in snow, etc.

On a side note, as one of the other posters mentioned I also had to deal with alot of negativity. I would be flipped off by random people as they starred at it while driving by on the highway.

Despite the hate by other folks, to actually drive it everyday I liked it the most out of any company car I've had.

I never experienced the negativity like that. No one was ever nasty to my face. But a lot of things I read were like comments on here. I loved being different and having one of the only Azteks in my area. I don't like to drive a car that's a dime a dozen.

I did belong to an Aztek group online. Some people there did some cool mods and really loved the car like people here love their Camaros.

Hey, it's not the vehicle for everyone. There are a lot of vehicles I don't care for (Honda Element for one) but I would never say bad things about it because people should drive what they like. I just wouldn't buy one.

A guy I work with has a Buick Renzevous (sp) and I have to admit, the thing is kinda fun to drive. Not as ugly as the Aztec but still homely. I thought they made some neat add-ons to them such as a camping tent that attached to the hatch.

The differance in the looks of the concept and production are fairly stunning. Its almost like the differance between Jenna Jameson at 20 and Jenna now at 40 after plastic surgery, anorexia, and drug addiction.

As for you Aztek owners, sorry if I come off a little strong. Its just at the time the car was made, it personified everything I hated about cars and the industry.
