Do your own oil change !
So I went to the dealership where I bought my Camaro to get the oil changed.
When I got home I figured maybe I better check to see if the level is correct. Guess what 2 quarts low I call the dealership to complain they say we put 6 quarts in, just what it calls for in your book this is an LS3 not a 6 cylinder. My question I guess would be did this engine get hurt by driving it home? Only went about 5 miles. Someone from the dealership is coming by with 2 more quarts to put in it but has some damage already been done? From now on I will do it myself so I know it gets done right. No more being lazy for me.

damn that sucks. Im afraid that theyre going to put 10w40 in mine one day.
Just a quick q, if you do your own oil changes, does this void your warranty? I was going to do so but heard this. And was told you can take it some place else but you need to have the documents to support that you are indeed getting the oil change

I have bought many new vehicles and have always done my own oil changes and have never had a problem with warranty, even with extended warranty.

I don't think it voids your warranty, you could,nt do a worse job on it than they do.

Do it yourself and keep a log in your owners manual along with receipts.

Doesn't sound like your oil light came on. What was your oil pressure at?... as long as all this was OK on the ride home (and you weren't racing home); you should be OK.

Though id support my local GM dealer I would not get simple stuff done there as they hire allot of folks that are still in or right out of tech/high school.
And they get delegated those simple task like oil changes, but for some its not so simple. Mostly as the tops in the class move on to better pastures. Cause we all know if who ever did it, put in the right amount of oil, you would not be low. As if you siphoned 2 quarts out to get one over on them... They had to of made the mistake and should find out why and own up to it. Making excesses is not a good sign of a pro shop. Id make a stink higher up above the dealer to GM corp, to make sure its looked into before they start replacing engines. |

I have an Excel spreadsheet I use to keep track of maintenance. I do not know how to post it here so PM me and I will send it to your email address.

+1... but I always completely fill it. That way I know how much gas was used by mpg = miles driven from last fill-up / gallons filled. I also log date, where I bought the gas, price, special conditions, etc on my excel sheet then calculate mpg, cost per mile, etc along with all maintenance and costs. I also graph the mpg as it's a good indicator if something is wrong. I've done this with all my vehicles since the early 90's... must be the engineer in me.
