I got mine when I was 19 (paid for it myself), and I remember saying to myself thank god this was not my first car not only because of the power (and I have a v6), but just because driving in general with a car thats slow throws alot of curves at you the first couple years...hope this kid is careful!

Right, cause you'd refuse it if your parents bought it for you... life isn't fair brotha, accept it. When you buy your own, like many of us on this forum have, you'll appreciate what hard earned money can do... consider yourself lucky. |

There definately is a lot of very sour people on this forum. 30,000$ to some is like 2,000$ to another, who cares. Being bent about some kid being born into a wealthy family just stinks of jealousy.
A 2,000$ Honda can kill someone just as easily as a 30,000$ camaro. Not all kids are irresponsible danger craving idiots. |

I remember when I was in High School, we had a mother park a brand new car up front with a bow on it for her daughter. It was a Volvo. Daughter came out, and it was the wrong model of Volvo that she wanted. She said I'm not driving that POS home and went back inside the school.
Flabergasted.

<edit: my bad, it is a fake video. Viral ad for dominos pizza!>
Second of all, responsibility has got nothing to do with it. Even surgeons who have just graduated have to be interns for a few years before they can solo it. A car is very complicated machine and the road rules are very complicated at first. A reduction in power keeps the driver within the boundaries of controllability. You cannot over-accelerate a civic out of control by accident. This is not about responsibility. The kid may very well be responsible, but accidents/loss-of-concentration/distractions happen to everyone, and it takes experience to know how to handle these things. You read all the time about very experienced drivers making stupid mistakes because they didn't know how to handle whatever freak circumstance and they over-compensated or whatever and crashed. With less power, it allows you to compensate without running the danger of over-compensating. This is just common-sense, and I am quite shocked that some of you don't understand this. But I guess I'm not surprised given all the young people we see dying doing "stupid" things that could have been avoided with the right parental guidance. I'd hate to be your kids if you think it's okay for me to have a 400HP+ car at 15 years old. I'd be a Darwin award winner waiting to happen, and my nomination should have been yours in the first place.
