young kids in front seat?
Has anyone tried this? Although my five year old can fit in the back seat with the booster behind me, I have to move my seat pretty far forward, enough for it to be uncomfortable, especially working the clutch. I'm not that tall (5'11'') but it makes driving more difficult.
I live in PA, and there is no preference apparantly as far as the law is concerned for front or back seat for kids in booster seats.

Depends on how heavy the boster seat is with you child in it. As long as the airbags stays off on the passenger side you are safe.
It would depend more on how the car rated in carsh test for the front occupants versus the rear occupants. If the rear is safer put the child back there. |

Well along with the booster I'm pretty sure the airbag is on. Together I bet its close to 45-50lbs.
Is there a way to disable the passenger airbag?

Interesting that PA doesn't have a law for kids in the front seat. Here in TN there is a height/weight requirement to ride in the front seat. I believe no car seats are allowed in the front...vehicles without back seats are exempt of course.
Bottom line though is the back seat is safer and if you want my two cents I would put safety over comfort and convenience....I've been through it with both my kids and they hated it but were in the back seat until there were adult sized...about 120 lbs... |

Why is he behind your seat? Why not put him behind the passanger seat instead? For his safety and your peace of mind, don't put him up front until he is at least 4' tall.

Yeah, I hear you on the safety. That's what I'm going to keep doing likely. It's just that its not only a comfort thing- its hard to work the clutch properly and I would hate to get into an accident because of it. I'll just have to get used to it.
In PA, kids 4-7 need to be in a booster- regardless of weight, as crazy as that sounds. Apparantly from the research I've done, there's no requirement for seat placement, except for infants facing rearward.

I'm pretty sure in TX there is no law about an age limit for them riding in the front seat. I haven't tried it w/ my 7 year old in the Camaro, but she rides up front in my Corvette and the airbag is disarmed. She's probably 50-55 lbs. I want to say the bag is disarmed until about 70 lbs.

I lurk

my 4 year old rode in the booster seat that sits on the front seat today. I have a 2 year old that sits behind her. All for the same reasons you speak of, too hard to work the clutch with the seat pulled that far forward. The air bag does not come on, she turns 5 in a few months.
