My love of Camaro’s began in 1986 when I purchased my first one, a 1978 stock Camaro, no extras on the car at all..Loved it and drove it all through high school. Next I looked at buying a ‘68 ragtop in 1988. That deal fell through because the guy had three or four potential buyers. Even though I called him after leaving the bank with a bank draft for him and told him I was on my way with the money he sold it to someone that got there about 10 minutes before me. How very disappointed I was. The next week I went and test drove a 1987 irocZ. Very nice car and I was ready to purchase it when I received a phone call from a complete stranger that had a 1967 RS fully loaded convertible and asked me if I would be interested in looking at it. Well YEAH!! I would like to look at it. Turns out he was at a gas station getting gas and ended up talking to the guy that owned the ’68 and he got my number from him and called me. How bizarre. I purchased this car and still have it today (the never ending project it seems). When I met my wife in 1992 she absolutely fell in love with this car. There is quite a bit of history behind it, as its longest owner other than me was Paddy Post (Mitchell), the leader of “The Stopwatch Gang”. They pulled off the largest heist in Canadian history even to this day. So needless to say in 2002 when Gm announced they would quite making Camaro I had to have one. Unfortunately with 3 young children it just wasn’t feasible at the time.
When we watched Transformers and saw the concept come out of the tunnel we were speechless, not just myself and Krista but our three older children as well. What a car!! Now I started to wonder “Are they building them again?” Nope.
In July 2009 while at a Chev. Dealership we saw one that had been crashed. What a shame. Now I did some research. Krista talked about the new camaro all summer long and I wished that I could get one for her but now we have five children (twins in 2006) so , financially I was hesitant.
One day in November while at work a crazy idea began in my head. I drove to the closest dealership and ordered a 2ss/rs Transformers Edition as a Christmas present for Krista. As everyone knows, that wasn’t enough time to have it by Christmas morning. My idea continued to form……
I had Krista give me a list of potential things that she would like for Christmas. Then I purchased her entire list and a few other things that my two older daughters thought of. Starting on December 12 I gave her a present every day with a clue as to what the final gift was. All the clues were related very closely to the car and I was very worried that she would figure it out before Chrismas morning. Christmas morning, jewellery box with a chev key and keychain and the options sheet for the build order. You can imagine the rest…. The wait was almost unbearable but was certainly worth it now that we have the car.
