I am still confused on the difference between ordering and allocation. I see a bunch of you guys with order numbers that for example start with an "N". My salesman never gave me an order number. So should I be at status 1100?

I emailed them a week after i ordered to see a status and they said they didn’t have any allocations that week but did not send me an order number. So right now I have no idea if I am on a list or my order is even in. I plan on emailing or calling my salesman later this week since I have not heard back since. What questions should I ask so I get the information I need?
The dealer has to have an allocation for your order before he can place the order with GM. (EDIT: The dealer can place the order with GM and get an order #. this will be event code 1100, you will not move from 1100 until the dealer has an allocation for the order) Placing the order with the dealer means nothing if they don't have an allocation for your order, and at that point you won't have an order #. (the "N" #) Once the dealer places the order with GM and it's accepted (providing the dealer has an allocation) you should get the order #. If you placed the order with the dealer 2 weeks ago and don't have an order #, I'd be willing to bet the dealer doesn't have an allocation for your order and he hasn't placed the order with GM yet. Depending on when he gets an allocation, you could wait days, weeks or even months before he's actually able to place the order with GM. You should CALL the salesman today, and ask "Do you have an allocation for MY order" If he says no, find out when he will get one. If it's more than another week, I would cancel the order and find a dealer who has allocations. Below I've attached a list of the event codes and what they mean:

1100 = Preliminary Order (Order passed GM edit tables but dealers has not received allocation to place order)
2000 = Accepted By GM (Dealer used allocation to place order into production)
2500 = Preferenced (Order pulled to the production system)
3000 = Accepted By Production Control (Order input into the production system)
3100 = Sequenced (Order sequenced for Production)
3300 = Scheduled For Production (Order is scheduled into the plant build cycle)
3400 = Broadcast (Order is sent to various build & supplier areas to bring order together)
3800 = Produced (Order is built and VIN# shows in the Dealer Order system now)
4150 = Invoiced (Order is invoiced to the dealer)
4200 = Shipped (Vehicle is shipped to the dealer or point of delivery)
5000 = Delivered To Dealer
6000 = Delivered To Customer

Well, got back from my meeting. The sales manager who set the meeting, was allegedly having sump pump issues at his house and he wasn't at work. Needless to say, my sales rep didn't call to tell me that....

Rep tried to tell me that their dealership allocation somehow got skipped, and thats why my order hasn't progressed. I explained that skipping doesn't happen and that the dealership simply has no allocation. I go on to explain that they knew this when I ordered my car.

Rep then wanted to dealer locate me a car and I told him no. Explained it's a matter of principle if i would even bother to buy from them at this point.

Rep then said that my car would go into the system in 2 weeks, as they are due an allocation then.

*RANT*

The worst thing is, this company has 60 dealerships...... I wonder how they got so many treating people like this. This is taking all the fun out of buying my car.

*END RANT*

Too make a long story short, the sales manager is calling me today. The only way I am not cancelling my order and buying the other car is if they make me a fantastic reduction in price, in writing.

Exactly. Except I have an order number, but no allocation.

Yep your right, I mis-spoke. The dealer can order the car with GM and get an order #. It just won't move from 1100 until he has an allocation.

*UPDATE*

The dealership is knocking off $300 bucks and painting my stripes on for free. Going to keep my order with them for now as they say I will go to 2000 on the 18th. We will see what happens.

Scrappy- I feel for you as I am in a similar situation. Placed my order 1.29.10. Camarotracking.com says still at 1100, dealer says in "his system" I am at 3300 (that was last week) with a TPW of 3.1. called last week & still at 3300 with TPW moved back to 3.8. Going to speak with him tomorrow. Problem I have is that there are not ANY Camaro's like I ordered? Checked last week & there was 1 515 miles away! I am really frustrated, can't follow my car through the build process??? That's a part of the fun in my opinion!! This dealer seems to be robbing me of that, or outright lying to me. Thanks for letting me rant as well.

Have you had Becky check it? She will tell you what your order is really at.

This is like last year stuff, waiting for allocation. We have been reading about cars delivered to dealers in 31 days from order. Sorry for your pain. Best advice I can give is make sure you get exactly the car you want, dont settle for one that is almost what you want because it is sitting on a lot nearby. Either way, it is worth the wait!

Props to you for giving them another shot. I don't think I would have done it. I would be prepared to tell them to stick their allocation if even one little thing goes wrong.
Good luck and I hope it's sooner than later for you.

Thanks.

I wanted to tell them to shove it, but business is business. They are saving me another $300 off the car plus painting my stripes for free, plus the $1,200 under MSRP to begin with. The sales manager took full blame for it and they wanted to make things right.

Not sure if I will tell others to go there though.

Yea, many times (she has the patience of a saint!) she said 1100, also called GM's 800 number, they said I was at 1100 also. I think I may have the same meeting you had with your dealer
