hey what's up guys i have a hard time choosing between jobs help plz
ok here's the deal i have a friend that is working up at a little small restauraunt they say the people and the managers are like the one's in the movie "clerks" if you seen it they aren't hard on you and they will joke along with you everyone helps as a team but you get $7.25/hr
Then I am now getting close to being done with my first semester of nursing so i can work as an extern and i will be able to make $10/ hr so i can either work with my homeboy and know what to expect and have fun or go into what i am going to do and make $10 an hour it's a hard choice because if i do the extern i could probably get the camaro sooner because my mom makes $14 and we could halve the bill until i get out of school (all cars are paid off except for the would be upcoming camaro) so i don't know guys what would you do in my situation because i am having trouble with it and i know it's not really professional to list $/hr but for you guys that might be a consideration idk. thanks you guys -Mr. J |

If I were you, I would take the nursing job. It will be valuable experience relevant to the field you are going to work in. Consider it an opportunity to give your job an interview before you get further along in school. You don't want to find out that you hate it after you are finished.

The nursing job not only pays more, but it will look SO much better on your resume than a restaurant job.
Think about it, in this economy we have too many people applying to too few jobs. When it comes time for you to join that fray, wouldn't you like a stronger resume than some of your classmates? If the job comes down to you and another equally qualified person, the person with greater experience will get the position 99.99999999% of the time. It looks like you're at the crossroads with the fun high school job on one side, and the adult career on the other. Looks like an easy choice to me.

Def. nursing job - $7.25 is NOTHING! By the time you get done with taxes it'll be $6.00/hr * 2000 hours a year - taht's only $12K, not even enough for insurance, gas, repairs, maitinence etc.
But no offense, if you guys are making $10 and $14/hr, you really shouldn't buy a new camaro. Don't fall into the same trap we are getting out of now - buying things you can't afford. Camaro - $30K, sales tax, $2100, insurance $2000?, gas, maitinence, repairs, etc...you're better off waiting to save up and pay it off in full. It's not worth buying than having it repoed. If you have money saved up then def. go for it, but nursing is the way to go. I'm sure you'd have a lot of fun working with your friend but it won't get you anywhere!

I'd go for the nursing job. Basically if you get the chance to work as an intern, do it. It will give you an eye opening experience into your future potential career. And, if you won't like it, then you will be able to change majors.
And I mean you can still hang out with your boy, no matter what job you have. |

Also, I wouldn't even think about getting the 5th gen. Because your mom really doesn't make that much after taxes, and especially after paying the bills. Unless you guys' live off of solar and wind power. You also will have expenses that will only grow over time. However, 10 dollars is a much better start than $7.25.

I don't know what's your plan with the nursing field, but I'm guessing that in the long run you want to be some sort of doctor, right?
Obviously you can also become an optometrist or a dentist, psychiatrist, or even get into pharmaceuticals. Now here's the thing, if you see yourself doing this eventually when you graduate and after med (or whatever correlates) school, then you should get the nursing experience. I mean sure a guy nurse, I mean yes there is still a big stigma associated with it, but in the long run it will be better to have experience of this sort than restaurant experience. Or do you plan to finish school and buy a restaurant? Also, back to the nursing job. Are you sure that you want to get involved in the nursing industry when you finish college, or the medical industry for that matter. Or are you still undecided? The difference is that this job will give you an eye opening look into the nursing industry, and if you won't like it than you will be better off, because then you can switch majors and it's not too late. There is the possibility of you finishing school with a degree in nursing, while working in a restaurant. The thing is that a few years down the road when you will be trying to find a job, possible employers will see that you don't have any experience and therefore even though you have been taught in theory while in school, you have not lived the reality of the job. So if you will finish college, yet won't find a nursing job for a long time, you'll regret not taking the nursing job that you have been offered and with little money in your pocket you will keep saying "I hate my life, I hate my life" Yet, if you do take the job and finish school with good grades, employers are going to give you a shot because it's going to be that much easier for them to teach you. |

Still, it's an honest job and it's a good job to do. Plus, if you're an RN you're kind of like a doctor |
