Well, they are being very difficult about the whole thing and won't do anything for me. Yes, I wanted the alarm installed. His [the person who engineered the appointment for the alarm] point was no one forced it on you. He also stated that the valet switch, which also functioned here as an LED light to, in his words, "let ppl know you have an alarm", has to be installed like that, unless you specifically ask something else. But they won't do anything at all. They don't want to stomach the cost of taking the alarm out and repairing the hole. They simply don't want to do anything about this. I didn't want anything drilled into the dash and they refuse to do anything. I made it clear that I should've been given the option but nobody did. I made a point that the installer did a fast job, not necessarily the best job. Very disappointing. He shunned me off by saying he's got a customer he has to get to and passed me on to a sales manager. And they can do that because they already got their money. Once the car goes out the dealership, they move onto the next person. If they were still trying to sell me the car or something, they probably would've done something. I paid quite a bit for this car and I would expect a little bit more from the dealership but they don't want to do anything for me, nothing at all.

You can buy a dash from any Chevrolet dealer parts department or ebay if your lucky.

Thank you very much for the tip.

I will prolly leave the stupid thing in there, after I take out the dreadful alarm. In time, I'll either see if it can repaired as close as possible to original or get the dash replaced. Until then, I'm done with dealers. I've learned my lesson.

Your in NY, what dealership???

I never trust the dealer for aftermarket. It doesn't look too bad, I would leave it at this point.

A dealer ship on long island in Babylon, NY called Atlantic Chevrolet and Cadillac. Atlantic is huge. I believe they also have franchises for Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Hyundai, and probably a few others, perhaps more than half of all mass populace nameplates.

The sales person was more than pleasurable. Was very reassuring, didn't pressure me or anything. The financial guy, the one who engineered the alarm deal, was definitely crafty. Trying to offer me full vehicle coverage to bring the monthly payment higher. I thought what good is it if I already have full coverage on my insurance with a 7 year bumper to bumper warranty. If I miss an appt with the dealer, then they can and probably will default me on the dealer warranty. Just what I need, more insurance for nothing. If they would've offered lifetime oil change, discount on tires and brakes, something like that, then it would've been worth it. At least, that's my opinion and understanding.

I learned a valuable lesson. Don't rush into things, have to be more aggressive, and don't get things done at the dealer. I presumed the service dept was in intimate contact with the finance guy who orchestrated the alarm install but they weren't. He got mad that I was talking to a guy in the service dept about an issue, not him. They're the service dept, for crying out loud. You're right, gonna have to leave it. Thank you.

Isn't the alarm led supposed to be very visual like up where the windshield and dash meet? I've always seen em there and the reason is because you want a thief to look at the car and so oh s**t this guy has an alarm, not wait till he gets in the car ready to drive off in it and just before he hot wires it he sees the led and goes, "ahh f**k it im already this far i'll just drive off."

Personally I would never see it there

Have a friend go test drive a Camaro from them and then swap the covers - problem solved! Just make sure you practice taking it on and off quick so they don't get suspicious.

Ha!

Yeah, gotta find a guy who can replace a dash with the sales guy in the passenger seat. Not too many of those around my area, but that doesn't stop me from trying.

It's frustrating because it's like someone scratching or denting the car. It feels like that and I didn't expect to get something like this within less than a week of having the car and by the people who sold me the car, the dealer.

I know it's to deter somebody if I they see it. I understand that. But if I knew they had to drill into the interior to do it, I would've never gotten it. I honestly didn't think they would do that and, thus, I never even brought up the question. If I knew that is the way most alarms are installed before this mess, I could've made my point clear to the service people that I don't want any drilling and that would be it. I should've told them to take me through the installation. I just feel like, you know, maybe I deserve a little entitlement because I literally handed you a big sum of money a few days ago and maybe it would be nice to take the customer through the procedure, like they did when I bought the car.

[I'm not trying to say I'm better than other people. My car before this was a 1999 chevy cavalier and the camaro was an expensive purchase. I don't know how others feel, but, to me, it was quite a penny and I literally owned the car at that point for a few days. So, yea, as a owner of a car that will go also down as a classic (which is one reason I didn't want anything drilled, to preserve it), I feel like they could've done a better job, but I also know I should've done a better job, too, taking time to research and slow down, but I learned my lesson.]

When I was looking at the car, you know, the car was explained to me, i test drove it, they asked me if I wanted the license plate drilled or not, they showed me how to operate all the buttons and such in the car, stuff like that. Once they got my money, they move onto the next guy. They rather try to win over the next guy who's gonna put down 25,000 for a car than a guy who's paying hundreds for things like an alarm. At least, that's how I feel.

Don't get me wrong, Atlantic is a great place to buy the car. I just had a bad experience with servicing the car, and the blame spreads from me, the service dept, and the financial guy who eventually sold me the car and orchestrated the alarm deal.

Just hope that someone else will learn from this and not rush into things like me after getting their camaro.

BTW, there does exists alarms where you don't have to drill, apparently (http://www.fiatbarchetta.com/btech/alarm.html).
