Man, looks like some complaints toward GM are in store about that. If it's that bad now, after some years and mileage it'll be hard to find a 5th Gen with less than tons of chips/nicks.

There are ways to help deter the chipping process. I know Mercedes paints the bottom portions/bumpers of their car with thicker layers of paint/clearcoat, it's noticeable when you go from top to bottom on the car, it just is obviously more durable down there.

"Peened" is the only word I can think of to describe my black Camaro's finish. Never, ever, have I ever. I've never been off pavement, don't follow closely and stay 1/8th of a mile behind trailers. I've got a black Jeep Rubicon that's spent almost it's entire life offroad and it's not "peened." I've got a black Silverado SS with 20's I've had just as long that doesn't have a nick on it... :(

I've got a '90 Silverado I bought new sitting in the back yard. I've hauled every stick of firewood I've ever burned with it. It doesn't have a dent in it, but looks like hell. The general paid to have it repainted after the clear coat fell off. A few years later, the new clear coat fell off again... I'm not bitching, I figure it will last forever...

I cleaned my '06 white Impala today. On a post above I said there were no paint chips on my Impala and there are none. But the painted rocker panels behind the front wheels have damage. The clear coat has been sand-blasted off to a dull flat finish but "no chips".
Again, do to all the complaints I think there's a flaw in the paint prep process on this new Camaro.

Yeah go to the dealer for sure so they can repaint it for free, and then I recomend getting a clear coat or a clear bra for your Camaro.

I will be having a 3M clear bra installed on my car this coming week. The installer is coming to my house to do it. The weather has been so nice all week and I've been tempted to drive my car, but I left it sit in the garage until the clear bra goes on. I don't have any paint chips and I figured I could wait one more week to drive it to make sure I have the protection on the car.

I have a RJT with 2900 miles and went to closely look for chips after reading this thread. I have no chips so far. After reading some of the horror stories about the severity of paint chipping I wonder if there may be a time frame where they had problems with the paint process. My car was built August 24, 2009.

3m clear bra your vehicles. GM warranty only covers rust through sheet metal not rock chips

Absotively will do! I'll probably post them in my car journal, but I'll try to remember to put a note here to let you know.

edit: The installer just called. He'll be here Wednesday. I'll take some pictures and post them when he's done.

exactly

I have 167,000 miles on my 2003 Ford Ranger EDGE. Probaby have maybe 3 or 4 small chips on the front bumper and hood and at least one of them came from a Florida Rock Truck. Assholes........point...........any of these new cars with the crappy water based paint probably will look like it got hit with a machine gun at that many miles.

I have 5,500 miles on mine along with 25 some odd rock chips on my gills. Victory Red paint job... I'm absolutely disgusted because I have babied this car, no gravel, snow or anything. We drive it to church on Sunday and the farthest we've driven it is 55 miles from home. There is no excuse for these chips, it is most definitely not normal for any vehicle. It's just disappointing that GM won't accept responsibility for the paint defect. My dealership has been sympathetic, but not helpful. All in all, enough to make me not purchase a 2SS for my wife.
