Where is the closest track to me for 1/4 mile times?

I live in Connecticut. From what I understand local tracks require that a roll bar be installed in the car. Are there tracks where amateurs can drive for 1/4 mile times? I would gladly take a road trip this summer to give it a try.

I know ATCO is down in New Jersey and New England Dragway is up in N.H., but I'm sure there's a closer track (New York)?
Here's a drag strip locator. You can search for a track near where you live.
http://racingscenemag.com/races/dragstrips.htm

Your car should be fine to run down a 1/4 mile track. At the very most you might need a helmet. Our track rents helmets if you don't have one. Also I run 12.5s and I've never even been asked to wear a helmet at our track. But most tracks require you to wear a helmet once you get down in the 13s in the 1/4 mile.
Roll bars are usually required for cars running much faster than a stock Camaro SS. At our 1/4 mile track, I believe you have to run faster than 11.20 or something like that before you have to install a roll bar.

Thanks SGOS252382 (why did you pick that name?). The locator will help and I will plan a summer trip with my buddy who has a corvette.

Below 11.5 is when you need a rollbar. Per NHRA rules.

Just a couple of notes to add to the responses above:

NHRA rules require you to have a helmet if you run 13.99 or quicker. (Non-member tracks can make their own rules.)

Since it sounds like your car is probably stock and you just want to go have some fun don't worry about rollbars or driveshaft safety loops until you break the 11.5 barrier.

Now go have some fun !!

Yes - it will be stock. I think it will be great fun to try 1/4 mile in my new SS - when it gets here. This fine March weather is making the wait even longer. Thanks.

There's also Lebanon Valley in New York...

I'll be at New England Dragway.... it's less than 20 minutes from my house.
