Man this stang is going to be fast. They sounded impressed with the track numbers. Being motor trend pulled a 13.0 with the camaro, I am guessing they got a 12.7 or 12.8 with the mustang. I believe the numbers from motor trend also. They are putting down about the same power as an SS (torque is a bit behind). It would be understandable. With only -14 hp, but less drivetrain loss with the SRA and smaller wheels, the numbers should be right in line with the SS at the rear wheels. I am guessing the GT should be about .2 -.3 tenths faster looking at the weight if they can hook.

So exciting. I am actually going to be intimidated when I pull up to an equally priced mustang...good times.

I wonder what GM plans to do with the camaro to counter? they will change something soon I am sure.

One other thought.

What did motor trend run with the 2010 GT500? 12.8-12.9.

It will be quite funny if the average driver in a GT can best or even match a GT500 at the track due to its traction problems.

Normally I'd agree but at the press event they had a couple dozen. They were comparing it to the Camaro and Audi A5.

It would probably be a fairly close race with 'average' drivers.

If Motortrend got a 13.0 out of the Camaro... but we know that incredible drivers can squeeze out 12.6....

And hypothetically they will see 12.8 out of the GT.... the GT will throw down low 12's with a great driver?

Too much speculation. Lets see the numbers already.

Camaro stock record is currently 12.58 now. A few mags hit 12.9 with the camaro as well (one of the motortrend tests to be exact...when it raced the GT500). Just to have all info correct

Also. We can all just call it a drivers race anyway (which it truly will be this time). All the mustang crowd called it a drivers race before when all head to head comparos had the 2010 camaro .5-.6 tenths ahead with 6 mph trap advantages against the 2010 GT. Most simply said that some GTs had hit low 13 with good drivers and called the camaro slow. So for me to be just as idiotic...if the mustang doesnt hit a 12.4 or better in mag tests I am not going to give it any credit. Sounds smart doesnt it Thats what we have been dealing with on camaro5 for the past year.

I am betting they will be talking about how it just blows the doors off of an LS3 all over the internet blah blah blah, even if the difference is only a couple tenths....which will most likely be the case....and it surely wont be .5-.6 tenths.

The true test will be when these cars are run same track and same day by a couple different mags....this single stand alone test isnt very definitive. But even then...I could still argue best driver compared to mags...if I want to be as smart of some of the mustang fan boys

Damn, so that's 464 hp at the crank from a 5 liter engine? Wow, that's really impressive. These things supercharged are going to be insane.

Still, I have a hard time believing their stock 5.0 will consistently dyno at these high numbers.

If so, their stock quarter mile times will be high 12's and 0-60 will be very low 4's. And I think that's a conservative estimate.

Btw, the exhaust note on that car in the dyno vid sounded great.

Maybe gears? I think the Mustang GT with the track pack which has the lower gears is the car that was typically tested by the magazines.

Chevy could put together a neat little track pack to make the car more responsive off the launch. Maybe some extra rubber on the rear tires and some improved suspension.

Gears, bigger tires and tighter suspension would shave off 2-4 tenths pretty easily with a good driver.

And dropped the weight by 100 pounds..maybe 150.

Otherwise it'll still have problems.

There isn't a track pack per say anymore. All 2011 GT's have the track pack suspension by default now. You can get the 3.55 or 3.73 gears as a separate option. The Brembo pack comes with the GT500 brakes, a special 19x9 wheel and tire package, along with a special performance setting.

For some reason it shows the Brembo's as available only with a standard transmission.

Just what I would expect as the HP numbers are very close. With the Mutang being 300# lighter. Nubers stink, but its on an unprepped surface. If you dont want to read the Mustang is faster in the 1/8 both in ET and MPH.

Supposedly 65 more hp, 260 lbs lighter and it can only do .2 in the 1/8 and .3 in the 1/4 faster than the lower hp L99? Doesn't sound all that great.
