Unhappy Went To Order Today, BUT?

So I decided what I wanted, Victory Red 2SS with White Rallys and headed to the dealer that I bought my last Vette from. On the phone everything sounded great.

When I got there, checkbook in hand, I was told by the manager that they now had not decided at what price they wanted to sell their allottment for, as they might want 5k over. They would decide in a week or two. They could take what I wanted and get back with me on the price. I don't walk that way and I won't pay a pack. Tell me what you want over invoice and write the deal. I have cash and don't need financing. I'm here to buy a car. Simple deal. Not interested, I'm outta here.

What a waste of my time and gas. I will check a few more CA dealers near me, but if they all want packs here in CA, then sorry, I don't need a new Camaro and will look for another new toy. Or just wait til dealers get loaded with these when they don't sell and buy one then.

I'm glad that you didn't order. Be patient. Keep the faith. Eventually, prices will go down. I'd rather wait till they get the kinks out anyway.

On another note, your dealer sucks at life and should contemplate quitting.

Yea man that sucks. I would've done the same thing. The dealer that my dad works at is letting me order it with $1,000 down. I will order it in about a week. Nice choice.

why does everyone assume that you writing a check gives you power over the dealership? Did you know we prefer you to finance? We actaully get paid by the lenders and it increases our portfolios with them the more financing we do. In making decsions on some very skinny deals; financing was a major part of that decision. I might take a skinny deal if it was helping create a good portfolio with my lender but wouldn't be interested in a skinny deal if it was cash.

But yeah, why would you order a car from someone who has to get back with you about pricing?

Exactly! If they don't know the exact pricing of the deal then they are obviously screwing someone(i think).

So you didn't order because they didn't have final pricing, or that you weren't paying MSRP? I'm confused.

This pricing lunacy has really turned me off. GM is on shaky ground these days they really could use all the sales they can get.

Once again, GM can not dictate what the dealers charge. A dealer could charge a 100% markup and GM could not do a thing about it. It is unfortunate for them, but thanks to franchise laws they're just powerless and it is really difficult to revoke a franchise. Luckily, as I have written before, there are almost 4000 Chevy dealers in the U.S.. Some are charging markups, and some are not. If you want the Camaro as soon as it is released, go find a dealer that is not doing markups and see if they have any left. I for one am very glad so many people here are just saying no to markups. It makes life easier for all buyers.

Aything over MSRP is BS, Once you order and settle on a price thats the price right ? They can't change the price when the car comes in right ?

I know this is true, but in the end this could hurt GM and in turn the dealer. GM can't dictate which dealers gouge, but they could say, your allotment of Camaros just went from 15 to 5. How you like them apples?

Guess I didn't make it clear enough.

I didn't order because they couldn't tell me if they wanted MSRP, $5k over or what? All they had to do was say we want MSRP or $2-3k over whatever the invoice might be or some firm terms that might be agreeable to both of us. Doesn't matter what the final pricing is or the invoice. They just needed to make a decision what they wanted for the car. If I didn't like the terms then I would move on and not waste any more of their or my time. And no, I didn't say that I would not pay MSRP and was holding out for a skinny deal. A dealer should make a reasonable profit as I want him there if/when the thing screws up. I will not pay a pack however on any car.

It's ok though. I have time and the money is ready and waiting. I'm sure that I will find a dealer that will make a firm commital as to what they want.

Call one of the dealers in the link below. They have all sold to at least one Camaro5 member for MSRP or less:
