Definitely try something to clean it off before I even talk to an Insurance agent.

Have you tried clay-barring it? I've had great success in the past with paint overspray, etc. Just be sure to use plenty of quick detailer as a lube and turn the clay often. Good luck!

This may sound crazy, but brake fluid has worked for me in the past. (It's a valet's secret quick fix on the lot. -beware when valet parking) I've used it to remove paint that was scraped onto a cars surface. If you try brake fluid or WD40, make sure you wax the area when you're done.
If you decide to have them repaint, make sure you look it over before you accept it. Matching the flakes in metalic paint (if it is a metalic paint) is not always done properly. Also look for a paint line. You shouldn't see one. You also want to make sure they block sand and not use thier hands. If they sand in one are too long with thier hands, it may show as an uneven surface. I'm not saying you will encounter any of these problems. It's just what to look out for.

Good luck

I am beyond surprised with all the applications of WD-40.. you can use it to rescue your cell phone that you just dropped in the toilet!!!

Quote:
DISPLACES MOISTURE: Because WD-40 displaces moisture, it quickly dries out electrical systems to eliminate moisture-induced short circuits.

That sucks. Please let us know if any of the above proposed solutions worked. Good luck!

Add my vote to clay bar before going the repaint route!

If i had to use it on my 2010 Camaro i would DEFINITELY test somewhere hidden first.

and WD 40 will clean easy stuff too... try that first! its less harsh than goof-off.

no matter what you do, when you are done, wax wax wax!

Try absolutely everything before thinking about letting a bodyshop touch it!

I always heard brake fluid was a big No No on paint, if you want to keep it anyways.

Another vote for Bug & Tar remover. I also tried rubbing compound and that didn't seem to make any difference. The Bug & Tar took a LOT of elbow grease, but it did the job. (Someone lost a 5 gallon bucket of white latex paint in rush hour traffic. I had white specks bumper to bumper.)

Also, another vote for NO brake fluid. (Doesn't it even say "do not get on paint" on the container?)

When I had a silver 2000 Camaro Z28, somehow I drove through some orange road construction-type paint and it splattered all over my passenger side. Fortunately I was able to scrub it off using a combination of tar & bug remover and clay bar. Took quite a while though. Hopefully yours will come out.

Two words... Magic Eraser!!

trust me it works!

My wife backed into a yellow pole at a gas station, LONG yellow stripe down the side, tried the Magic Eraser... and it came right off. Did not hurt the car paint in the slightest...
